Admittedly, stayed here on an internet deal on the way home from a weekend away (and not far from home!) - rather an odd location, but when you read the history of the site, you understand. Aside from the large formal & corporate facade, it was actually very good - the food was excellent, there was a wedding on, and we made sure we ate before the hoards arrived, but it was still fresh and tasty. Would definitely use as a business/conference facility. Downsides - TV channel selection poor, room was hot (not really a fault - but there were no fans) and the drinks were a little pricey. But overall - a surprise, and very tempted to use again.

We stayed for two nights earlier this month at the Alexandra hotel/conference complex and were very pleased with our choice.
The facilities on offer, including a swimming pool, sauna and gym, were excellent.
The rooms and communal areas have been furnished to a high standard and everywhere was very clean.
The staff were friendly and helpful.

We stayed here for two nights for my god-daughters wedding, taking advantage of a very good deal for the wedding party. I felt I must write as it was such a successful weekend.
On Friday night arrival, guests congregated in the large lounge area, which had more than enough seating capacity, coffee and soft drinks were on hand, along with bowls of peanuts and banana chips - very welcome for some that had travelled far and wide.
But what made the hotel gain the 5 stars we gave, was the staff. Nothing was too much trouble, if we asked for something it came immediately, I must say that the master of ceremonies for the day was excellent (Bilal?) he worked tirelessly for the whole weekend (does he sleep?) from early morning breakfast to last orders at the bar.
Our room was a little out of the way, but benefited from being on the ground floor, with parking very close by. No concerns about the room at all, very clean and good facilities. Looking at the review below, yes, it was hot in the rooms, but you only had to ask for a fan and it was there. Yes, the Wi-Fi wasn't brilliant in the rooms but more than adequate in the public places, and as we were at a wedding we weren't too concerned with this.
The buffet style breakfast was vast - and kept well topped up considering the numbers of people there. The wedding breakfast was excellent - good sized portions, sea bass was beautifully cooked. There are vast grounds around the hotel, good for walking in the morning. Whilst there are two lovely outside seating areas within the confines of the hotel, maybe more could be made of the outside grassed areas, some landscaping or further seating areas? There is a very well equipped gym and the swimming pool looked clean and inviting - unfortunately we ran out of time to put them to the test.

We stayed in this Conference Center for 5 nights. It's spacious and modern but as a conference
or business center, really needs improvement. Our group reported three areas of concern that affected the rating of "average"

The WIFI which is more than a necessity is sorely inadequate. It constantly dropped the signal and was mostly ineffective. This is a big drawback. Everyone in the hotel, not just our group
complained about the inability to get a good signal or being dropped. Several people said the hotel management has been saying for some time, "We're going to get new Wifi" but they have not seen it happen yet. So be aware if you book this hotel as a conference and need Wifi - it's poor to non-existent.

The hotel's other big drawback is a lack of air conditioning. The rooms are small, stuffy and warm and unless a fan is secured (a commodity lacking at the Alexandra House) sleep is miserable. There's simply no ventilation in the room causing you to evacuate for more open spaces in the hotel - defeating the need for a room.

The restaurant over 5 days was hit and miss. Breakfast was buffet style but the food was not necessarily hot, or the eggs - left for some time, were soggy. Our group complained about the evening meals. Do not order the Fettuccine as the "garlic" promised on the menu was simply
overlooked. The calamari was 3 small thin rubber-bands and the pasta was overpowered by
too many flavorless tomatoes. Several ordered the Strudel on two nights and said it was good so order carefully. The plates were not that clean and often I had to find another tea cup to drink from as the one at the table was dirty.

I would also note that several times I called the reception desk and no one answered the phone.

So, if you're planning a conference consider your needs carefully. This hotel is in the middle of nowhere so you might be better served with transportation to a local Pub for food. But be aware the stuffy rooms, no air conditioning, a dearth of fans, and a lousy wifi system.

Room Tip: I rated the sleep quality "Terrible" because of the lack of ventilation. And though the h...

Dear Guest

Thank you so much for taking the time to give us your review, its disappointing to read about some of the issues you experienced at the hotel during recent stay with us.

I more than happy to see all our guest’s writing reviews on the venue, as you can see from our other guests that we get very positive reviews, but please remember to always take time to talk to the hotel directly during your stay if you are not happy, so at least action’s can be taken on the day to help us improve your stay.

It is my team and I`s only wish to have happy guests, we do work hard to try and make our venue a great place to stay, but at times thing go wrong, and with your constructed feedback we as a team look at all the ways we can improve our service

I am afraid the rooms were not designed with air con, but we do have difference size rooms and I have over fifty fans for guests to use, which really do help. We have had a long spell of very hot weather, which has been great. My house keeping team keep the blinds closed in the rooms to help keeping the rooms a lot colder.

We are having a issue with our wifi at the moment in some parts of the hotel but not all areas have been effected, we have ordered some new Wifi access points for our bedroom block, this will take a couple of weeks due availability of engineers, we are currently offering all our guests free wifi, which they can at least use it in some of our bedroom and bar area. We wish it was fully operational as it’s a service that normally works very well, but the issue is beyond our control.

I have asked chef to cook off those dishes you reviewed so we can try them as a team and make sure, we are cooking the items properly and to insure we don’t have any negative comments again.

I want to thank you again for your feedback it’s really appreciated, I am a big believer in tripadvisor, it’s a great tool to support my business and help us growth as hospitality providers

Kinds regard, and have a great week.

We stayed here over the weekend and enjoyed every minute. Staff team were all pleasant and friendly. Lovely big room with comfortable bed. Spotlessly clean in all areas. A little out of the way nearest village was a good walk away all though taxi services are available. Breakfast was lovely buffet style however it was very well maintained with loads of staff that were very attentive. Good value for money. Give it a go.

We chose this hotel because it takes dogs, something of a rarity these days. The location and the grounds are doggy heaven, beautifully kept parkland setting with barely a leaf out of place and poo bins as well. The staff are really kind, welcoming and helpful, nothing seemed too much trouble. The building is fairly new and purpose built with superb air conditioned public areas but sadly the bedrooms have no air con and very poor ventilation so consequently were very hot even when the outside temp was only 23degC. Even the standard bedrooms have more space than the average hotel and are well fitted out with comfy beds and pillows. The leisure complex was fantastic with a nice indoor pool area.
To become excellent this hotel needs to grip it's catering department, the emphasis is definitely on quantity and not on quality, the breakfasts are standard buffet fare but can be on the cold side and hot plates are hard to find as only one of the four plate warmers was working, I had to discard ten plates at one meal in order to find a clean one. The dining room had clearly not been vacuumed properly between Sat dinner and Mon breakfast as there were still bits of food in the hard to get places around the base of the tables and along the skirtings. We had two bar meals on Sun night and had to return both of them, the staff handled the situation very well and intimated that our experience was by no means unique. Sort this out and become excellent!
One last thing, does the laundry man have to visit at 0730 on Sat morning and disturb the peace?

Room Tip: Not facing the front entrance ( noisy deliveries ) and I would guess not around the back where ther...

A purpose built, modern hotel. Everything: room, cleanliness, food etc was very good. A spacious bar area, though it did get crowded later in evening (it was a Saturday). Just a few niggles: the swimming pool wasn't very big, and with a few families with children in, it seemed even smaller. Also drinks were pricey: £8 for coffee for two. Would we stay again? Probably, if in the area.
