“Very well done”
Reviewed 27 August 2014

We spent a very pleasant weekend, so pleasant that we extended our stay!

The hotel is very well run and the attention to detail is very evident from the dry sherry, rusks and plunger coffee in the room to to the wall plugs that can take multiple phone/tablet chargers without the need for adapters. The underfloor heating around the bed and in the bathroom was very welcome as the nights were cold. Although we had special rates, we were accommodated in one of the luxury sea facing rooms which has a fireplace and a small lounge area. Very pleasant.

We were on the sea food special and was offered this mountain of prawns, calamari, fish and crayfish on our first night. There was no way we could finish the platter. Very well done apart from the crayfish that was overcooked and stringy. Pity.

The breakfast spread is one of the best we have ever had anywhere in the world. The service is also impeccable. When the queue for the eggs became a bit long because of the Porsche Club crowd, management was quick to deploy extra staff to assist. This was typical of the good service and friendly staff.

The only down side for us were the subsequent dinners on the specials menu. The portions are ginormous, so no complaint about portion size. But unfortunately the oxtail, lamb shank and duck all tasted and looked the same as if the same sauce was used. All came with mash and some veggies. If you ate only one evening, you would be very happy. Some more variety and colour on the plate please. A nice touch was that on our third night the waitress said that we could choose anything from any menu. Problem solved.

Will we be back? For sure.

Room Tip: Try to get one of the sea facing rooms named after sunken ships

What we were after was a weekend of tranquility and authentic seaside hospitality. What we received in return are memories that will last a lifetime. It would be wrong to single out anyone as all that tended to our needs were most efficient, friendly and above all they genuinely want you to return. And despite arriving late the first night, everyone was most accommodating. It made the three hour drive seem all worth it. The view from the balcony after dinner didn't help either and we just wanted the moment to linger longer. And just when i thought it cant get any better, we experienced breakfast fit for a king. As a non-red meat eater, i was in heaven with the choice. Little exploring was done as we did lunch and dinner at the hotel and then came checking out the Sunday. You left a memory that will last a lifetime, but we'll return soon. Very soon. Thank you.

Room Tip: Request rooms away from Bar/ Restaurant/ Bistro if you're looking for complete silence at night.

We have had the pleasure of returning to this Hotel a number of times for our overnighter. The staff welcome us all by name, they are unbelievably helpful. They enjoy our stay as much as what we do. Thank you Riaan, Mien, Rodger and Robert and all the rest. We will be back - next time we will book all 70 rooms for sure!

I've been at the hotel with a small group and myself and my guest have been very impressed by the location and the excellent service we received. We received a very warm and welcoming check in. The room was great. I've never seen so many power plugs in a room and all of them very handy. The room, the bathroom and the balcony were very large. Housekeeping surprised us as well. The breakfast had an excellent variety. We would have liked to stay another night to watch more whales coming past.

Room Tip: Advisable to take a sea view room.

Vincent, the very welcoming and friendly barman, made us feel like old customers. Made the most beautiful cocktails with cherries, umbrellas, pineapples and the whole 'shebang'.

Wanted to stay in the hotel, but all seaview rooms were fully booked due to a conference. Was offered the winter special, but found a lovely self-catering house for half the price.

Will definitely try out the spa while we're here.

Thanks Vincent! We'll be back for more of your creations.

We had a lovely, cosy room facing the sea. Perfect for a quick escape from the city. We enjoyed the underfloor heating and all the amenities. Great service all round, great dinner and breakfast! A favourite we'll definitely return to time and time again.

I have heard much about Arniston as a small fishing ill age and of the lovely Hotel. Nothing disappointed at all. I was lucky to get a big sea facing room with 2 large windows and doors. The room had underfloor heating which added a touch of luxury and warmth.
Unfortunately I had to unexpectedly travel alone and this was kindly understood and my room rate dropped to single although I had booked double.
Dinner was a treat with the set menu having great choices. I settled on mussels to start which were prepared in a creamy white wine and garlic sauce with spring onion ... Delicious! I chose oxtail as a main dish which was equally well presented and tasty. They use Charlotte Rhys bathroom products which are really good. All in all an excellent little piece of heaven. I cannot wait to return and share the experience with my husband.

Room Tip: I will always recommend a sea view anywhere I travel.
