I arrived @ this lodge on the 14th of June, I was supposed to stay until the 17th. I checked out the following day. They put me in a small room @ the basement, more like a dungeon. No light coming through, dormatory-style shower, 2 extremely small single twin-beds with extremly narrow duvets. It was a cold winter's night, even the wine that I took could not shake off the the chilliness. I was lucky to get a booking @ the Arniston Hotel and checked out the following day!

Arniston Lodge B&B
Arniston is a small laid-back village on the east coast of the Cape Agulhas peninsula, about a 3-hour drive SE from Cape Town. It’s an old fishing village that’s been declared a national heritage site, so all the old fishing cottages are now protected. The sight goes by the alternative name of Waenhuiskrans (which translates roughly as “ wagon house cliff or rockface”. This name comes from a local tradition that a nearby cave is so big that a wagon with a full span of oxen could turn around in it. The cave does exist and can be accessed only at low tide). Some of these white-washed cottages have been bought by private individuals as holiday cottages, a few have been converted into small cafes, craft shops or B&Bs.
However, most visitors to this area will likely not stay in the actual old village, but in the newer section right next to the old village. One can choose the Arniston Spa Hotel, or the modern Arniston Seaside Cottages. But, we feel that a much nicer option is to choose one of the local B&Bs, and our favorite by far is the Arniston Lodge B&B.
It’s only about a 3-minute walk from the rocky beach, the small fishing slip-way, and the hotel, and is very clearly sign-posted from the main entrance road to the village. The owner is Erwin Brigl and he and his excellent staff will make every effort to ensure you have a good time while staying here. He has lived in the area for many years and is a fount of information about what to do and see, and how to get to less well-documented sights, such as some of the shipwrecks around here.
The B&B has 5 rooms, three upstairs and two downstairs, facing the swimming pool in the back garden. There are a couple of public areas, a shared fridge, a small bar, and lovely patios on different levels where visitors and sit and enjoy morning coffee while watching the colorful local birds at the birdfeeder; or enjoy a glass of wine at night and savor the huge African sky and all the stars.
The breakfasts are huge, with a choice of continental or cooked, after the fruit/yoghurt/cereal course, which means you don’t have to find much for lunch. Costs are pretty reasonable, we thought.
We would definitely return here. Contact Erwin at info@arnistonlodge.co.za or phone +27 (0)28 445 9174

Room Tip: The one upstairs room is almost a suite, overlooking the patio area at the back and with a lovely vi...

First visit to Arniston and we enjoyed it very much. It has a very laid back friendly atmosphere. We had a top floor room [room 1 I think] which was very spacious, peaceful and had excellent coastal views.Erwin was a friendly laid back host and was always up for a good chin-wag.The pool area could do with a bit of reorganisation and some more shade provided to protect us North Europeans from the searing sun.
There are lovely walks along the beautiful coastline and easy day trips to Cape Agulhas and De Mond.

Room Tip: Top floor rooms have best views.

We spent one night here and this B&B served the purpose. The person at the desk was helpful, the breakfast was quite acceptable, I just .can not see why anyone would visit this town. A much better choice would be the very close towns of Struisbaai or Cape Agulhas...wish I had known this ahead of time

Just spent 4 wonderful days in Arniston, a hidden gem on the coastline of the garden route. Very quite and relaxed atmosphere in mid-season. Crystal clear water and friendly local people. Arniston Lodge was for sure the best B&B and our host Erwin spoiled us. The rooms are lovely, very clean and comfortable, especially the ones on the top floor with a beautiful view over Kassiesbay and the dunes. We spent long hours at the cosy little bar, chatting with Erwin and learning so many interesting facts about the history of the area.

Room Tip: Nr. 1 is spacious and has a beautiful view

Arniston is an amazing place. Beautiful and peaceful. We stayed at the Lodge for two nights and were struck by the hospitality. Erwin is a great host, very relaxed, funny and a fantastic storyteller. A man who understands how to live and it quickly rubs off on you. Breakfast, bar, fireplace, everything was right. If I were to name one downside: the bathroom was extremely cold (it was wintertime when we visited) and took some courage to enter.
Highly recommended, we will surely return!

We spent one night at Arniston Lodge. We were in the two rooms downstairs next to the pool. The other guests and the owner spent the evening in the lounge/bar just above the rooms, which meant that we got no sleep until well after midnight when I finally went and pleaded for some quiet so we could get some sleep. Within half an hour the guests went to bed. Needless to say we felt sleep deprived the next day. The rooms however are pleasant and neat, the staff friendly and the breakfast tasty. If noise doesn't bother you then The Lodge is a pleasant comfortable place to stay.

Room Tip: Don't stay in the bottom rooms near the pool area. I can't comment on how noise affect the t...
