“Nice view, quick visit”

Pointe-Noire Interpretation & Observation Centre

Attraction details
Owner description: Pointe-Noire is located where the waters of the St. Lawrence Estuary and the Saguenay Fjord mix, namely at the "confluence" of the Marine Park. The site is characterized by oceanographic phenomena influenced by the rhythm of the tides. Rip tide zones and the formation of plumes will no longer hold any mysteries for you after your visit to the Pointe-Noire exhibition. The site offers an exceptional panorama for observing the birds and marine mammals that cross the zone. A stroll along the panoramic trail and a stop at the lookout equipped with telescopes will enable you to admire this magnificent landscape and to identify the marine animals and bird life in the sector. A team of interpreter-guides proposes a wide range of interpretation activities and talks to help you discover and better appreciate this natural and cultural heritage. Alignment beacons on the site still stand guard at the mouth of the Saguenay.

Just a few steps before the ferry for Tadoussac, stay alert because the parking is very close from the sign. About $6 for the entrance, the visit doesn't take a long time (about an hour is enough). You'll see an old lighthouse, captain house and binocular to see the whale. Stay alert, because all "attractions" aren't very well indicated. It's worth the time, very windy and cold, bring hot clothes.

We went to Pointe-Noire twice during our brief stay in Baie Ste Catherine. We went in the afternoon prior to going on a cruise and did not see any whales. The next morning we went again and were delighted to see beluga whales.

The interpretation centre is located very close to the Tadassouc ferry. There is a small car park and viewing platforms at different levels overlooking the river and fjiord. There is a small charge made during the day but if you go early morning or late evening the access is free. We went at about 06.30 and were rewarded with sightings of a large number of minky and beluga whales close inshore together with seals and birdlife.

We saw belugas, minke whales, seals, and porpoises in the 20 minutes we stayed - very very very nice place to stop.
