We booked for a party of eight hoping this might be a good place for our next company Xmas party but .....the room was cold , the service was cold , the plates were cold. When the food eventually arrived it was obvious they use the cheapest ingredients ( although this is not reflected in the prices) and then don't cook them very well. The mushroom and vegetable stroganoff was one of the most uninspiring plates of food I have ever seen- just rice, peas and carrots with the occasional button mushroom - no sauce. Had anyone bothered to check that our food was alright we would have sent it back. The manager did grudgingly reduce the bill but there was not a spark of warmth at the Nightingale on that wet and windy Wednesday night and we certainly would not return.

I am sorry to hear your table felt that way about the whole food and atmosphere. We did fifty meal on that Wednesday night and your table are the only ones that didn't seem to enjoy the food or the service. We found it difficult to identify the problem with the meal as all you starter plate and mains plate were clear apart from a bit of rice with carrots and peas, nothing was said until after the bill was requested. We understand that everyone has an opinion and are quite entitled to it. I can assure you that the cheapest ingredients are not used! We only use what we would consume ourselves, and I can assure you that 'cheapest' as you have expressed is not what we use.
We suggest maybe to come back again and try what we offer to see if we can change your opinion.

We haven't been here for a while, but have only had good experiences at the friendly pub, when we revisit I hope to find it just as good.

I had lunch with 7 other friends in the restaurant area (waitress service - not order at the bar) and the meal was lovely. The food is fresh, there is a choice for everyone and everything was prompt even thought it was a Sunday lunch and we expected a delay.

The staff are nice and have a chat, recommend things if you are unsure and pop over regularly to check if you need anything.

The bar area (order at the bar food) is a large seating area with a TV either end so you can watch the football/sports/etc if its on or have a TV-free visit up the other end. Both TVs are on when there are 2 big football games when I have visited for drinks.

The pub is comfortable and the bar staff are polite.

If its for food, a catch up or a quick drink I would recommend.

Been past a few times before and always seen it busy with drinkers on a Friday night. Saw that they did a Sunday roast so thought we would give it a try.

The place is clean and presentable, like how a modern pub should be.

The food felt like it was all re-heated. Vegetables tasted as if they were re-boiled or from a microwavable packet. Gravy was probably re-heated or stuck in the microwave and the roast potatoes. Nothing tasted fresh. Service with a smile would help as well (you do have to order at the bar).

This place has a lot of potential and is sitting on a goldmine. With a large car park to the rear, hundreds if not thousands of homes within a 10 minute walk and an influx of people going to Tesco or the Chinese take-away passing this ideally situated place to draw customers in. Loads of space for tables within the building and from the looks of things a large kitchen.

It felt like they mainly rely on the local drinkers (regular?) and TV sports for the income being stuck in a rut like some other pubs but with the right imagination, taking advantage of local produce (butchers, grocers and farmers market on Friday in Bicester) this place could benefit. Events to spread the word around the estate(s) would generate interest drawing people out of their houses into this place as THE focal point for the community.
