“Sun, Sea, Sand & Serenity”
Reviewed 24 April 2014

It is about 150 kms from Metro Manila passing through South Luzon Expressway and Tagaytay City, with a travel time of 2 1/2-3 hours.
Your travel fatigue will be washed away by the magnificent views of mountains and cliffs hugging the seashore, along with pristine stretches of beach! We enjoyed the calm soothing serenity where Sky, Sea, and Mountains huddle together...
The Suites and standard casitas are clean and spacious (our group occupied one suite and 6 casitas). You do need to take a shuttle to go down to the main beach area (10 minute ride). However, breakfast buffet was surprisingly ordinary.
Was it worth the time and distance invested to get there? You Bet!

Casitas are great. The veranda overlooking the ocean, clean and spacious rooms, huge T&Bs. The view from the infinity pool was great too. One major downside is the food. We were fed a very pale pancit bihon on our arrival with a plain slice of bread. Dinner buffet was equally horrible. Minestrone soup was tasteless (it tasted like hot water with carrots in it), seafood marinara with mussels and clam that were obviously not fresh; tough beef cooked with mushroom. Make sure to grab snacks/meals along the way (Tagaytay area). Their bar is also closed at 10:30pm. No more drinks to serve beyond that.

Be ready to starve.

I booked for a sunset suite online through Expedia and was able to get a good room rate. We stayed for 3 days and 2 nights, which I think is a fair length of stay to compensate for the long travel time and actually enjoy the facilities.

The room that we got had a great view; we spent a few hours just sitting by the balcony eating and drinking. The wifi signal was great so you can just sit and read if you want to. I’ve read that people usually stay in the Casitas, I guess for privacy, but after walking and observing, I will still opt for the sunset suite next time.
In case you want to go around, they have three pools that you can try. The double infinity pool was the best, good size and there are lounge chairs surrounding it. We also tried the pool near the lower beach club. We had to take a shuttle going there and aside from us, there’s another couple playing a round of mini golf, but the pool area was all ours. The beach was also decent, good enough for kids to swim in, just pick the area with less pebbles.

Do try the game room, and check out what’s being shown at the mini theatre. Nice areas to try during the evening since there are not a lot of things to do anymore once it goes dark.

Food for breakfast was just ok, we were served buffet, but there’s no assurance when we checked in on what type of breakfast we will have. The receptionist said it will depend on the number of guests. There were a couple of viands, rice, cheese, egg and some bread. We tried the food at Il Jardinera for lunch at the Lower beach Club for lunch, the pizza tasted good as well as the pasta.

One miss for this place is the accessibility. There are a lot of steps and slopes around the club, to get to the suits or even to the pool and restaurant. For us to get to our room for example, we had to haul our bags through a flight of stairs. The elevator at the time wasn’t working.

We are definitely planning to go back; it’s now our destination of choice if we wanted a quick getaway that doesn’t require a airplane ride.

Club Punta Fuego is the place to stay if you want to be far from the maddening crowd. It's a good place to relax and unwind if one is looking for tranquility in a vacation. At any time, one will only bump into a handful of hotel guests. We felt more like guests in a friend's elegant home than in resort hotel! But that's not to say the place is small. On the contrary, it's a sprawling 88 hectare property beautiful from any angle. Some places even have sea views on both sides!! The panoramic views are simply breath-taking to say the least, especially at the main clubhouse with a picturesque infinity pool. My family and I stayed in casita 1A & 1B which had good sea views from the balcony. However, one can't see much of the South China Sea from 1A because huge trees obstruct it. I suggest the management trim some of the branches periodically. While the trees provide shade and fresh air, unfortunately their leaves also litter the balcony endlessly which makes it look untidy.

We tried swimming at the Lower Beach but were not that pleased because although it was quiet the shells were painful under my feet. You need aqua shoes if you're going to swim here. Also I saw a disposable diaper (yuck!) & shampoo sachet in the water as well as small piece of broken beer bottle on the beach. This is dangerous & I worried my son might hurt his feet as he also didn't wear his aqua shoes. The beach at Terrazas is much much bigger and nicer. Its best to go there in the morning as the infinity pool can get mIore populated after lunch. Terrazas is just 15 mins away via their shuttle or you may also bring your own vehicle like we did. The shuttle is quite dangerous because I almost fell out during a sharp turn as there are no doors or safety belts & I was busy taking pictures, not holding on for dear life! In addition, the wait for the shuttle can stretch to a good 30 mins! We did not appreciate this as we were tired & cold from swimming & wanted to shower & rest before dinner. We hope the hotel takes note & improves this aspect of its service.

The food taste & quality in San Diego are quite good, better than we expected in fact, after reading the ho hum reviews but still quite pricey and can get repetitive if you're staying for more than 3 days. The food at Cafe del Sol is much better but much pricier too. Going to town is too much of a hassle so bring your own water & snack like chips and fruits because they are not strict upon check-in.

My family and I felt very pampered as all the staff if attentive to your every need, no matter how small it may be. Special thanks to Ms. Joann & Mark of the front office who welcomed us, Roland (San Diego) who provided my toddler son with cushions during meals and Mary (also from San Diego) who was concerned enough to ask if my dad found his wedding ring which he lost the night before. She apparently took the time to look for it after we left our table. Its those little details which make their service top notch & unforgettable at Club Punta Fuego that make us definitely want to come back. In fact, all of the staff, from the gardener, to the ubiquituos security men all smile & greet guests.

Room Tip: request a lower numbered casita as these have better sea views. check if the balcony has a huge tre...

The trip to Nasugbu was a long for me and my family who reside in Benguet but it was all worth it! We felt like celebrities in Punta Fuego! Staff was great and everybody loved the food served in the buffet. It felt like we were in Greece! (Which is their concept).

The Infinity pool view is great--- it was overlooking the beach. We loved the sea breeze and the hotel rooms were spacious and very clean. They have a mini theater where families can enjoy movies with free popcorn.

We spent another day at Punta Fuego Terrazas. There was a bigger infinity pool, a kiddie pool and small jacuzzi pools. We enjoyed swimming in this area because there were trees around that shaded the pools so you can swim any time of the day without getting sunburned.
