“Lack of maintenance obvious”
Reviewed 18 February 2014

This hotel is only five years old but clearly shows lack of maintenance and areas of the Hotel are shabby and require re-decoration. I stayed in one of the Villa rooms in the main building which was large and well equipped and more than adequate for a single traveller. Mosquito nets are provided and definitely required as there are noticeable gaps in the brickwork around the window frames. The towels provided were in an appalling state with stains on them and very threadbare. I asked for new fresh towels but were are all in the same condition.
The timber decking outside the room was in a poor condition and potentially dangerous as panels appeared to work loose when you walked over them.
The food was fine so no complaints there but some of the service was indifferent, although the manager tried his best and was keen to arrange trips and transport and provide pedal bike and motor scooter hire.
This could be a good hotel but has been run down and is very disappointing.

We stayed in the superior accommodation across the road from the hotel. The beds were comfortable and there was WIFI, a mini bar, kettle, 2 free waters and tea and coffee making facilities. Forget a view over the Mekong. The shuttered and glass windows are very difficult to open and you look out over waste land before the river. The windows have gaps such that a very large mosquito could get through. Mosquito nets are provided. The first night we were there, music very heavy on the bass was being played from somewhere nearby until 2 am. Not really condusive to sleep. A guide book mentions the possibilityof a swimming pool. It must be very well disguised.

The reception and restaurant are in bad need of the walls being scraped down and repainted. Breakfast is fine except if you have fried eggs. They were cooked so much as to be inedible. We found the restaurant food to be of average standard at average prices. I think that fusion food should be avoided, but what a good advertising buzz word it is. Much better to provide good local food and good Western food. East is east........

My wife and I arrived tired and dusty after an eventful trip and were delighted to receive first-class service from the hotel's staff. The manager Toi was particularly helpful and highly professional in helping us arrange tuk-tuks, river transport, and transport back to the airport, as well as general information and assistance on a number of activities that we managed to cram into just 3 days. The restaurant provides excellent meals throughout the day and the rooms are beautifully fitted out and very clean. Looking back over our 6 weeks of travelling in SE Asia, this was the best run out of the many hotels we stayed, and this is mostly due to the professionalism of Mr Tui and his staff.

Room Tip: We stayed across the road from the restaurant on the ground floor which was excellent.

Away from the bustle of Pakse here is a little hotel and restaurant where the staff is very helpful and focused..all functions seamlessly under their manager Mr.Tui!
Day trips, boat rides, bikes and even spa excursions are all handled by the staff. The efficiency and caring attention to details was especially welcome after having been ill for five days! To recuperate in a comfortable and quiet room with the added luxury of soaking in a stone tub was exactly what we needed...as the fevers subsided our enthusiasm for travel returned twofold. Oh, the Mekong sunrise with temple bells nearby is a truly wonderful way to begin your day .

This is a very good quality hotel on many respects and the pictures reflect accurately the standard of accommodation. This is part of a chain which appears highly focused to tourists in many regards. There are a few irritations that without would increase my rating to 4 or even 5:

- the restaurant is expensive by Lao standards.
- motorbike/moped rental is expensive at 60000 for half a day (and we were told a litre of fuel was in it but clearly was not)
- arranging transport back to Pakse is in fact extortionate with request for 50000 kip for a journey that should be less than half this.
- you cannot open the windows to view the Mekong whilst having a mosquito guard, which is a shame; (there are mosquitoes at night although nets provided)
- the television only has DVDs and is not connected to cable/satellite.
- rack rates are quite ridiculous - book ahead on Agoda for reasonable rates.

However, on the positive side the staff are helpful, speak good English, the breakfast is good and the atmosphere pleasant. I personally would not stay for more than two nights (if that).

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your review and I am glad you overall enjoyed your stay with us.
Regarding the restaurant, we get the best quality ingredients from Thailand and Vientiane, which don't come cheap, and i can assure you that our costs are quite high.
As for the motorbike and transport to Pakse, we are only offering the services of other companies. They are not our own cars and motorbikes. I will report to them the issue about petrol not being filled as this is not appropriate of course. Unfortunately the satelite in Champasak does not allow us to get good quality international channels, hence why we decided to put DVD players in all the rooms.

I wish you safe journeys.

We stayed 5 nights in a twin room at the Inthira Hotel in Champasak in December 2013. It is a really lovely place with such a friendly and helpful staff! Best of all was the manager, Mr. Toi, who was wonderfully helpful with everything from trips to Wat Phou and Tomo temple to transport to our onward destination and appointments at Champasak Spa. The staff are all delightful and it seems a very happy place. It is called a 'boutique hotel' and seems very 'high design' in a way that is not always helpful, but still is interesting. Our room was in the converted shophouse across the road from the main reception with a wonderful view of the Mekong. The beds were great and toiletries are supplied, but the toilet area was problematic in that if it was occupied, the doors couldn't be shut--bit of a miscalculation, design-wise! Walls are thin (as we found everywhere in Laos) so it can be a bit noisy. However, it is clean, well-maintained and has a wonderful restaurant. The breakfasts (included) are great with a choice of American (eggs & bacon), European (muesli), Canadian (pancakes??) or Asian (rice soup) style. All breakfasts come with toast, homemade jam, juice, fruit and coffee or tea. The restaurant is open all day and evening with a large and varied menu of Asian and Western food.It is more expensive than the other places in town, but not outrageously so. Champasak is basically a one-road town and not much is happening--which we loved--but might not appeal to those looking for an exciting nightlife. Nonetheless, people are very friendly, there are a number of small shops selling all sorts of things and a couple of good tailors very close to the Inthira in case you need to get a Lao sin made (as I did).

We returned to the Inthira after 5 days in Don Khong and stayed in a "Duplex" room with bedroom upstairs and a sitting room on the ground floor. This was more expensive than the twin and much more roomy with a generous double bed, a big wet room with a toilet, basin and a rain shower PLUS a large bathtub downstairs. There is a balcony off the bedroom and a porch off the sitting room, all looking onto a central courtyard garden--very lovely. We had a wonderful time for our 2 nights there and Mr. Toi was great about organising a car to take us to Pakse airport to catch our flight--he even arranged for the kitchen to provide us with an early breakfast!

We recommend the hotel very highly. While in Champasak, look to see if the shadow puppet theatre is having shows--it's wonderful to see with a traditional orchestra and great local puppeteers.

Room Tip: Upstairs rooms across the road from the reception have Mekong views but some vociferous poultry next...

We stayed in a bungalow, which has a very nice, big room, with a bathtub, and a shower under the open sky. The restaurant was also great, and the staff couldn't be more helpful. We stayed for 3 nights, but could easily have stayed much longer. We would certainly come back!
