It could be better for a 5 stars hotel but the overall experience is really good. Restaurant should improve but Spa is awsome, wide, clean and with a nice view. The rooms are very nice and confortable. I would be back.

Room Tip: Avoid room close to the road. Ask for the other side of the hotel

We're a couple of Frenchmen, we celebrated 30 years of marriage. For the first time in Tuscany, we were guests for 5 days at this hotel Petriolo SPA RESORT, near Siena. An extraordinarily beautiful hotel situated in a beautiful wilderness area with thermal pools, marble everywhere, the rooms beautiful, large, clean, excellent service, relaxing massages. An great SPA!
For the Reception staff - excellent,
RESTAURANT (only waitresses and waiters) - excellent,
Cleanliness - excellent, all very friendly and available, an excellent touch, BRAVO !

Sorry, there were technical problems with television (TV channels only were Italian and Arabic) finally resolved, but the biggest problem was to live a very bad experience from the very first night when we dined at the restaurant and waited 50 minutes for each order, it is not possible at a 5 star restaurant to have dinner 2 hours and half, SHAME !
THE HOTEL AND RESTAURANT VERY BEAUTIFUL BUT WITH A POOR ORGANIZATION AND UNPROFESSIONAL,

The waiters were friendly and nice but their bosses do not know anything, only excuses, I think are unaware organize... although the 2 restaurants and 3 bars was only 5, 6 waiters, working all day, morning, noon and dinner, they were tired, had sore feet, POOR them... seems slaves. SHAME OF THE MANAGERS OF THIS SPA! FOR HEADS OF KITCHEN AND RESTAURANT A VERY LOW NOTE !

My wife and I will return to this hotel but not TUSCANY .... SORRY ! !

I WAS IN THIS HOTEL GUESTS BETWEEN 18/04/2014 - 22/04/2014

This was our first time to the spa. We were impressed by the spaciousness of the room as well as the balcony and the bathroom. Everything was spotless! The pools were clean and the amenities lovely. The best part was the sulfur pool outside. Again, spotless. We had a wonderful couples massage and enjoyed the steam room afterwards. We were afforded dinner with our stay. This did not match the rating of the hotel and amenities. But, brunch the next day was lovely.

We stayed in Petriolo Spa Resort in early October for three nights to see if it suits our requirements, and we were very pleased with the results. Our room overlooked the pools and offered a spectacular view over the Tuscan hills. It was very nicely furnished with a huge double-bed and comfortable, classic-style furniture, combined with a large LCD TV and the Italian version of Sky (only very few English language channels, though). WI-FI was free and worked well. The bathroom was luxourious with bath tub, large shower, bidet etc., and two high quality dressing gowns were provided per person, plus plastic sandals. We missed having any drying facility for swimsuits and although this is probably only an issue in autumn and winter, it still presents a problem. Damp gowns and towels were readily exchanged for dry ones.

The spa section of the resort was very generous indeed, with two outdoor pools (one ambient temperature, one thermal, and indoors there was a large swimming pool, two thermal basins with comfortably warm water and assorted bubble and cascade arrangements, plus a very warm thermal basin, as well as a steam room, sauna and hot/cold Kneipp-style walk-through basins. All very nice and in good working order and some deposits of sulphur must be seen as normal, because of the thermal spring. Thanks to our timing (early October) the facilities were pleasantly under-occupied but they are so extensive that they could have comfortably accommodated two to three times the number of guests. The Spa also offers a range of health and wellness treatments, but our short visit did not allow us enough time to test these. There is a doctor on site (speaks limited English) who will have a half-hour chat with you and check your blood pressure before signing you off to use the facilities, but we did not experience any hard-sell of wellness treatments at all.

The location of the hotel is outstanding, on top of a hill with generous views over the beautiful landscape, especially for the main restaurant and breakfast room. In off-season only two restaurants were open, with the indoor pool bar/restaurant serving light snacks, pizzas etc. all day and the main restaurant offering exquisitely prepared 'nouvelle cuisine' and even a special menu for calorie-counters (don't forget to order enough starters and/or side-dishes to allow for the minimalist approach of the modern style cooking, if you arrive hungry). Pricing was quite reasonable for a four star resort restaurant and booking half-board would seem a good option.

Petriolo Spa is located off the main road from Grosseto to Siena (including roadworks to build a new road alongside the old one) but, with the exception of the small number of rooms facing the road/car park, this could not be seen or heard from the hotel. In fact, thanks to its location, it is very easy to find. Petriolo Spa Resort is not made for people who are looking for town life - even the nearest village can only reached by car, but if you want a relaxing stay, this is the place.

We found the staff at Petriolo both very friendly and helpful, yet discreet and never pushy. All the staff we encountered spoke English to a greater or lesser degree and at reception, they were exceptionally professional and accommodating. In all Petriolo has passed our 'three night test' with flying colours and we plan to go back for a longer stay next year.

I have never before written a review on one of these sites but feel I must on this occasion. My husband and are mid to late twenties and booked this hotel for the second part of our honeymoon stay. After staying in a perfect hotel in Rome and never really going 5* before, our expectations were fairly high. From the minute we arrived, we were disappointed and we're really not fussy people. When we had read negative reviews before we thought people must have been over exaggerating but we really didn't enjoy our stay and we paid a lot of money. We stayed for seven nights in total and although the room was immaculately clean, it was very outdated as others have said and there was a loud noise coming from the generator when we sat outside. The spa area, although nice was not so clean. There were mould and tide marks everywhere. We did not once in the week we were there see anyone cleaning it or checking the water and the missing tiles led us to believe it wasn't very well maintained. The sauna and Japanese salt room didn't work. We also felt the atmosphere was really lacking. We tried the restaurant on the first night and were told only one was open, with no explanation why or when the others would be open again. The reception staff had said that we could just walk in, however, when we arrived the manager said we'd have to wait a while since there were no tables outside and we should have booked. The food we ate was half as good as some of the other meals we had in siena and was twice the price. Really, we felt that the hotel staff didn't make you want to spend your money there and since we had a car, we then preferred to go elsewhere. If the atmosphere and service had have been there, we would have been happy to spend more money. I expected so much more from my honeymoon. We weren't made to feel special, and actually we often felt second rate to the Italian guests. This is not a moan but a warning to others because I wouldn't want anyone else to be in tears like I was because of the disappointing service and frosty atmosphere.

We were there for 5 days, got upgraded to a better room - I think only because they were so empty - so that was nice, big room with terrace, sitting area, dressing area and very large bath room - all very nice but a little dated (in decoration style) for my tastes but hey ho, we all like different things

Spa facilities are great, we didnt bother with the doctors interview - just hit the pool and spa. Lovely view from pool terrace, shame about the road works nearby but they didnt intrude

Breakfast included was fine, but we just like coffee, cereal and pastries at breakfast for were perfectly happy. We had one evening meal, on the first night, and it was OK. Perhaps they are trying to hard to be upmarket and healthy but on holiday you want to enjoy the meal, so even though we had another discount voucher for the restaurant we didn't go back.

There are plenty of good to excellent local restaurants nearby, we found 2 on Trip Advisor - L'etrusca e Il Greco at Piri (absolutely fantasic food, dont worry about the look of it) and Locanda nel Cassero at Civitella Paganico (lovely setting and great food)

The staff at the hotel were lovely, one hand it was beneficial to be so quiet and not many guests, but you then think they cannot be making enough money to keep the place going.

We stayed in Petriolo Spa Resort for a few days, the rooms are spacious and well equipped, service efficient and helpful, the pools are good (though need a little maintenance), the bars have a large choice of local fantastic wines. The restaurant could be better value for money though especially considering the quality of local cooking and the choice of restaurants nearby. The position of the resort is perfect for visiting this beautiful part of Tuscany (not to be missed Civitella Paganico or Campagnatico).
