Il Pelagone is set amongst the rolling hills of the Tuscan region and provides breathtaking views of the surrounding Tuscan landscape, whether sitting on the large generous balconies of each villa or playing on the superb 18 hole golf course. It is only ten minutes from a beautiful coastline with gorgeous medieval towns dotted around close by. But that's if you feel like leaving the hotel which is much too seductive if you are only there for a short stay like I was. From the moment I arrived, the staff were warm and friendly and very happy to help which is particularly nice if you are travelling alone. The lay-out of the hotel resembles a village with villas spread out around the communal dining and bar areas. My one bedroom villa was spacious and private and looked out over the rolling hills. I had an excellent golf lesson with the golf pro and then spent four hours on one of the most beautiful golf courses I've ever played. The golf facilities are a real high-point at this hotel as is the pool area. After my golf I visited the spa and was spoilt by a very relaxing and rejuvenating massage. Dinner was a generous offering of local delicacies with superb local wines of the region. It was a very satisfying and relaxing two days and I'm definitely going back!

Stayed there with a couple of friends for a golf week ( check out the package rates ). Great golf course , but you have to book and respect tee times to the minute ( this is what the primarily older German and Austrian clientele does ).
Rooms ( this is a Austrian Time share) are clean and up tp date when you book the newer appartments on the hill ( borgo pelagone), the older appartments built in 1999 are pretty spartannic and in desperate need of a major overhaul. They falsely claim to have internet in the rooms, no chance to connect, you have to wander with your PC to the tiny reception.
The restaurant is a chaos, be prepared to wait up to 1.5 hours for your pasta as second course to arrive, followed by another .5 hour for the main course. The staff in the evening is willing but clueless. You have to expect the same antipasti buffet in the evening the whole week, pretty boring. Same thing for breakfast, every morning the same. They claim to be THE best golf course restaurant, clearly this is NOT the case. ( ok, Punta Ala is worse ).

Dear Guest

Thank you for your comments.
I wish you would have expressed your concerns and shared your opinion whist staying at Il Pelagone. It is only by chance that I found your comments on the Internet.

I am very happy that you liked the rooms in Pelagone Borgo and you enjoyed the Golf course, even if have to respect the Tee off times.

Sometimes circumstances lead to circumstances, like we all know, if you get stuck in traffic and you can not understand why things are not moving…

I can assure you, it is clearly not our standard that you have to wait 1,5 hours for pasta. Please note that we have a daily changing Antipasta Buffet and our service team is not clueless, as mentioned by you: Would I have had a chance to explain, you would have had a different opinion. The same goes for the Internet, where we are dependent on lines from Telecom. It is not that we are sitting here and enjoy ourselves, that Internet is not working. Instead we have been in contact with Telecom twice daily, to see if the dysfunction of Internet can be resolved.

I hope we have a chance to serve you again and proof to be different.

Thank you
Daniel Braun, GM Il Pelagone

Bongiorno! We stayed at the IL Pelagone from June 21st 2008 through June 29th, 2008. We are Disney Vacation Members (Since 2000) and used our points to stay at this resort. IL Pelagone is a Club Cordial Vacation Club resort. For those of you not familiar with Club Cordial, it is a GERMAN Timeshare. I would say 99% of the people staying at the resort-while we were there-were German. Deutsch is the primary language spoken by the guests and staff. The Italian workers speak Deutsch and Italian and most speak some English.

We checked in and the staff was great. I had emailed IL Pelagone several times with questions before our arrival and my emails were always answered timely. When we checked in the receptionist rememebered my name and my emails. She was very nice and helpful. Check in was a breeze. We were given our electronic key card and beach towel tickets. (You are given one ticket per person for a beach towel. Beach towels are available at the front desk).

We drove to our room. We had the two bedroom apartment. The beds were firm and low to the ground. The room had two bedrooms, one-and-a-half bath (No tub only a walk in shower) a dining area, kitchen and living room space. There was plenty of closet space. We had a tv with satellite (most stations are in German) and central air. (It worked great!). No washer and dryer. I want to emphasize Italy is not the U.S. The furniture in all of the rooms we have stayed at in Venice, Florence and Rome are simple. The rooms at IL Pelagone were clean. Housekeeping comes everyday and you can put the tag on the door for them not to come. The room comes with beverages and if you drink them you have to pay for them. Otherwise you put the drinks in the cabinet. Most rooms have a porch with patio furniture.

The grounds of the IL Pelagone are beautiful. This is a golf club resort and the views, plant life, birds are beautiful, peaceful and relaxing. The grounds are well maintained. You will see insects on your porch but they are not in your room. (They must spray)The pools are clean. We did not use the sauna. You cannot park your vehicle outside of your room due to fire codes. There are designated parking lots for your vehicle. There is a golf store selling clubs, shoes, clothing etc. Next to the store is Birdies Bar. We never had the chance to eat here as it was always closed though it said it was open with the menu outside. ?? The other restaurant is by the pool bar. They serve pizza, pasta and an antipasta buffet. I ordered the antipasta buffet and the server kept asking me if I wanted pasta. I ate so much from the buffet I did not want pasta. They thought it was odd. The pasta is not as good as restaurants outside of the resort. The pizza is comparable to what we ate throughout Italy. There is a third restaurant (Le Cerrilier) that has an antipasti, salad buffet in the beginning and you choose from two courses out of 5 on the menu. There is a dessert buffet for the end of the meal. The selections change daily and are posted at the front desk. The way you pay is you tell the server your room number and you sign a ticket. At checkout, you pay the total from your stay. The bartender speaks English and most of the servers speak English.

The guests at the resort are German. However, the guests at the resort lacked any personality. They never say hi when you walk by. Don't get me wrong, a few did wave hello or smiled when you walked by. I just found it strange that so many people can be so uptight. During our stay, Germany was in the Euro Cup (Soccer) and everyone had their front windows open sitting on the patio watching their tvs that were inside their units. (Keeping the door open with the lights on attracts the misquitos. No thank you)

The location of IL Pelagone is nice. You are near the expressway. Follonica is a 5-10 minute drive. (5 minutes if you drive like the crazy, speeding Italian drivers, or 10 minutes if you drive like an American.) Follonica is a beach town. Not many people here speak English. This is where the Italians go to the beach. It is not touristy. IL Pelagone has a private beach. We went to the beach twice. The water and sand are clean. I was up to my neck in water and can clearly see my feet. You use your key card to enter the beach doors and are greeted by an IL Pelagone employee who asks your name. He has a list of all the guests and looks up your name to confirm you are a guest. They have beach chairs and umbrellas, changing room, and beach toys. No jet skis or parasailing. The worker gives massages in his cabana. $20 Euro for half-hour, $35 Euro for an hour. Follonica has a grocery store called PAM. Good stuff. They have a great deli and a great selection of wine and cheeses. We stocked up on food here for the room. Follonia has many restaurants. We just parked the car one day and walked around. Shops, gelato and restaurants are near the beach. Another nearby town that we visited is the town of Gavorrano. We at at a local restaurant. Good food. They only had one copy of an menu in English. The rest are in German or Italian. The staff barely speaks English. The food was good.

From IL Pelagone we visited Siena, Assisi, Orvieto, Civita di Bagnoregio and Pitigliano. (We used Rick Steve's book for guideance) All of these towns are a minimum 2 hours away. You either drive through winding, scenic mountains with crazy Italian drivers trying to pass you up, or take the long route around the mountains with more crazy, speeding Italian drivers. We also had a GPS with European maps which worked great (Garmin 370). I had to use a paper map along with the GPS as the GPS almost always gives a route through the mountains and my family did not enjoy driving through the mountains. (I did).

Overall, I rate this resort as above average. The rooms itself are simple. The grounds are beautiful. You are in the countryside of Tuscany. The air is fresh and crisp. The front desk staff are great. There was really no negative other than the uptight guests that were staying there. (This is my opinion and have nothing against Germans. This is clearly my oberservation. I spent two weeks in Italy. One at the IL Pelagone resort and nobody on the entire trip had their nose in the air like the guests at Il Pelagone. When you say hello with a smile or nod your head and they look at you without smiling, what would you think?)

If you are looking to save money and/or not wanting to use the points from your Disney Timeshare consider research on an Agriturismo. Farmers rent out rooms in their homes in Tuscany and are called agriturismos. They cook for you. THEY ARE EVERYWHERE IN TUSCANY and several near IL Pelagone.

I will try to add photos at a later time.

My husband and I stayed a week at 'Il Pelgone' for our honeymoon. The hotel is well maintained and the front desk personel are very kind and helpful, they helped to recommend restaurants for dinner and also booked a winery visit for us. The restaurant on property serves good food but the servers are very impatient and slow to help if you do not speak Italian or German (even if you try to speak Italian). We also ate at the Birdies Bar that is located on property. The first day we ate there they were very helpful, but after that we always felt that we were bothering them when we came in to order food. As far as the other amenities at the hotel we did not get a chance to partake of them since it was the off season. Our room that we had was a one bedroom studio which was spacious and housekeeping brought new towels everyday. The bed was hard as a rock and about 2 feet off of the ground. The towns around the area where the hotel is located are small and about a 10 minute drive from the resort. You will need a car if you are staying at the hotel. Since the towns are small, many places are closed in the afternoon. It was very difficult to get food durning the middle of the day unless you go to the Birdies Bar. If you plan on traveling to the different cities throughout Tuscany (Pisa, Florence, San Gimignano) plan to drive about 2 hours each way. Our overall take on the hotel was that the front desk people were great, but the restaurant staff
left something to be desired.
