“Beautiful surroundings, very friendly staff!”
Reviewed 20 January 2014

We stayed here for two nights on our way from Bagan to Inle Lake. We arrived on the late bus, so we didn't get there until 3 am. No problem for the very friendly manager who stayed awake and received us with a smile.
The rooms are good value for the price: spacious and even including a little anteroom with a tv and a DVD player (a first in Myanmar). Breakfast is the standard eggs, toast and fruit. Very good omelets though. The view to the back of the bungalows is stunning. It's located on a hill just a few minutes outside of town, so you can enjoy the surrounding hillsides. The best thing here are the staff though. At 9 am we asked the manager if he could arrange a trip to Pindaya, and at 10 am we had a driver ready to go! Highly commended if you're having a stopover in Kalaw! And the manager Neel speaks fluent English.

Positive points:
- Great staff, especially the young and energetic manager that provided us with good advice for local tours in the villages around Kalaw (and recommended the excellent A1 guides).
- Rooms are spacious.
- Good value for money in Kalaw.
- Rooms have double plus one separate bed, making it excellent for parents with 1 child or small group of friends.
- Location is fine, 5-10 minutes walk out of the city centre. Only for a few restaurants it's a bit too far away.

Points of improvement:
- The bungalows are relatively new, but look outdated and have a cold atmosphere. No heating and at night it can be really cold, especially in the winter.
- Not everything runs completely smooth, for example one of the mattresses still had the plastic on it. Also breakfast could use some improvement.

Nature Land Hotel II was a wonderful introduction to a month in Myanmar with two little kids. They picked us up at Heho Airport, even though our plane was delayed by two hours. The facilities in the bungalow rooms are spacious and even though they appear aging, they are durable and very clean. The breakfast each morning was plentiful and tasty, but the best part is that it was served with a smile and conversation. The hotel is on the hill, so a 15minute walk into town but that is the best way to get to know the town. We stayed only two nights but wished we'd arranged for more.

We arrived in Kalaw with our five year-old daughter at 1am, with no reservation until the following night, as we had conflicting reports about how long the night bus would take... Staff at other hotels, sleeping in Reception, pulled their blankets over their heads and ignored us, so we called Nature Land 2, apologising profusely for our unsociable arrival, and not only did Nat Htoo and his partner immediately hop on their motorbikes to fetch us from the centre of town, but also gave up their own beds for us, as the hotel was full for the night. This turned out to be the theme of our stay - generous, warmhearted staff who did everything possible to make our visit as comfortable and easy as possible. Our daughter and Mgwe (Nat Htoo's wife) became fast friends, and spent hours playing together and with the lovely dogs, and even exchanged gifts when we left. The location was lovely - ten minutes' walk into town, motorbike taxis to bring us back (I had a sprained a ankle), five minutes' walk along a dark lane populated by fireflies beneath a clear, star-spangled sky to the nearest restaurant for dinner. My husband was able to arrange hiking to hill tribe villages while my daughter and I wandered around Kalaw, soaking up the day-to-day life and enjoying the tranquillity. Breakfast was omelettes, toast and jam and fruit - fairly basic, but you have to remember where you are! We stayed in a cottage with downstairs sitting room, large mezzanine bathroom and a big bedroom with large, comfy beds - again, not flashy, but very clean and we had everything we needed. Internet was probably a bit faster here than in Yangon! When the train to Inle broke down on Christmas Day and we were facing several hours' wait at the station, Nat Htoo stepped up again and arranged a taxi to take us instead. We'll be in touch with the family via Facebook to congratulate them on the birth of Mgwe's first baby in a couple of months, and our daughter keeps asking when we're going back.

I just love love this hotel!!! Believe me when I say this is the most beautiful hotel in Kalaw as I did run through almost all the hotels in this small town. Beautiful place. Very spacious room: I got a whole house with private bedroom, living room, bathroom with bath and shower at the lowest price in all Myanmar. We even have a garden to go out and enjoy breakfast and coffee. Love the atmosphere of this place.

Walking from the hotel down to the market, you can visit the church, pagoda, and monarch on the way.

Very friendly manager and staff! Hospitality is the greatest thing! Very helpful also! We checked in at 3am in the morning and not a single complaint is noticed.

Wifi is good too.

Cannot say anything bad about this place! Just love it!

My deep thanks to all the staff at Nature Land II.

Stayed for 1 night before I started the trek to inle lake. There are only abt 8 little houses, so thats all the rooms here. Rooms are spacious and adequate. Free wifi available in rooms and reception.

We had a good time chatting with the young boss who speaks good english and is very helpful.

Rest of staff are friendly too. Location wise, it is a short walk downslope to the market and you can enjoy nice views of the town while walking.
