We enjoyed our being immensely. Nothing was annoying or disturbing. Not a sign of financial crisis)))

My partner and I had not visited Kos before and we were looking for a last minute all-inclusive deal. We found the Giakalis Aparthotel and thought it looked ideal and matched our requirements.

I read several reviews before we travelled and noted how low this hotel scored, particuarly relating to the food but we went with an open mind.

We arrived at the hotel and had a lovely big room with two balconies that gave us a great view of the pool area and the sea. The room was clean - which to us is a basic requirement, and quiet.

I can't deny that the food was a huge dissapointment and it clearly isn't an all-inclusive option as only Beer, Wine, Ouzo and soft drinks were free. When we questionned why Metaxa or local Vodka wasn't free we were told that it is imported from the Greek mainland therefore not local !

There is only so much moaning you want to do on holiday so we quickly got over the food issue and started to enjoy the pool, the beach and the nearby town of Tigaki which is a cab's ride away costing 8 euros each way.

The beach is unspoilt and the sea is warm and clear - well worth a visit.

The staff behind the bar were helpful and friendly and we found the other guests to be very sociable and we have many happy memories from nights around the pool and bar, including an impromptu Quiz night! We were dissapointed to leave some new friends.

We have great memories of our first holiday to Kos, I would say just be prepared for basic food and some great sociable nights.

Not as bad as some reviews have given it.

I'm afraid being Greek myself, i was ashamed to see that short of treatment in a Greek Island.
To be fair this is a very basic Hotel and if i ever visit a Hotel in Greece i will go for a 4 or 5 star and read the reviews. Or i will not accept to pay anything above 30 euro for this sort of think.
The son of the owner being a genuine person tried to do everything to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. I fear though, as long as the old boss stays in the middle and keeps interfearing he can only do damage.
I was present when the old man he was telling off his overworked staff for the ice cubes - Not to use them as he has to pay for them and if the guests wanted icecubes they would get no more than one and other rude remarks (he did not know that i speak Greek) and furthermore he forgot that he was selling the all inclusive.
Shall i say a few things about the food???
Food: This was not Greek Food and the quality was below poor.
The Poor Cook tried his best with what he had.

The view was nice and indeed it was close to the beach. We bought a mosquito repelent and a device that it is so common in Greece and it warked. We did not suffer from the mosquitos and all the rest of it.

Kos is nice but if you get a chance to visit Nisyros please do. It's closer to what you would expect from a Greek Island. Also Asklhpeion is a fantastic place to go to and the first school of Medicine in the world. So do not miss this one whilst on the island. When you go out for food ask one of the locals for nice restaurants as they will direct you to the good ones. I have regreted for not doing so from the begining.

We stayed on this Hotel only for a night because of the reviews and the rest 3 nights on another hotel in another side of the island. We were pleased to find unspoiled places but that was after local recomendations.

I feel that i should apologise for what you have experienced in this Hotel and do believe me this does not represent the Greek Hospitality.

Thanks for your time to read my review.

p.s.= I did the ultimate mistake travelling with a Greek Ferry from Kos to Peireas. The experience was horrentous and all the health and safety rules broken. The overcrowded boat was from G.A. Ferries. Staff was friendly and again overworked, but all the rest of it i'd rather erase from my memory.

Returned this am exhausted but relaxed after a well earned break
Well ...what can I see ....I have been drained by the constant complaints that we endured each day, which only perpetuated the problems .I fortunately had researched Giakalis and realised that it was a three star hotel ,so to be fair realised what to expect (unlike others who were expecting an all inclusive 5 star experience)
It was not all inclusive and the food was poor but it was fairly quiet, walking distance to the beach and a few local tavernas, a short taxi ride to other resort areas and the greeks are friendly which is why I will always return to Greek islands.
My advice is use this as your base , explore the areas, treat yourself to a few nights out in the local tavernas, the Greek night out which was fab and enjoy some of the views. .
If you want the all inclusive experience pay the extra and do your research!!!!! However I would not return to giakalis.

KOS is a beautiful island and it would be a shame if people were put off from returning by the unfortunate treatment received at the Giakalis.

I am in total agreement with all the reviews already posted and more besides.

Unfortunately for us when we reviewed the hotel it was back in May and at that time no one had posted any negative comments regarding the complex, I would however suggest to anyone now who has already booked, if they can change their accommodation do so now as the experience at the Giakalis will dampen your holiday.

We tried to change our accommodation and spoke with the Youtravel reps, however as it was August all resorts were fully booked and no other accommodation was available.

We also made do with the complex and ate out most of the time, and never once had a bad meal outside of the resort. The Greek islands are lovely and the Greek people are also very friendly, unfortunately the owner of the complex was not of this ilk. He was very intimidating watching every move you made and likewise the clock when it came to serving the buffets (if that is what you call them).

The complex was pleasant but basic, but the all inclusive package was completely unacceptable, to the extreme that butter was not allowed with lunch and dinner, air cond within the restaurant made no difference, we were not allowed ice with our drinks, we could only receive another drink over the bar if we returned with an empty glass, I could go on.

However I will not go, but what we are doing is taking this matter further to the tour operator.

Please feel free to email with any further comments.

Regards
Donna

Staff were very friendly, but owner didnt even look at you. Apartment ok but should have had air con to make it comfortable not enough breeze to not require air con. was not all inclusive a bit of a con, only beer wine ouzo and fizzys from 10am-11pm. Didnt bother with breakfast couldnt really stomach this due to flys, went out each morning and bought local bread and juice back to apartment for kids. Had lunch at near by go kart track very nice place. Beach 5min walk nice but no facilitys. Entertainment was supplied by a guest called brian he organised pool games and a quiz night. pool could have had a lot more attention as far as cleaning. Lots of complaints going on at this hotel we didnt complain and were treated a lot better then the people who complained. Just had to get on with it and make the most of our week by going out and about. Lots of guest suffered severly with mosquito bites we had a couple but i made sure the plug ins were top priority and the beds and us sprayed at least twice a day. If you go to Giakalis then be prepared to pay out for meals drinks etc because you may only wish to sleep there.
