“Good food pleasant sunday afternoon”
Reviewed 30 January 2012

Went here on Sunday for the set lunch menu 3 courses including tea/coffee for £13.95 which is good. Their was a big group of us. Whoever the chefs were on Sunday the food was very tastey so well done! really enjoyed it!

The food was well presented, a bit tight on the vegetables considering all of us enjoy our veges but just asked and no problem extra came.

Very lovely decor inside the wildboar restuarant

would go again

I used a conference room at this hotel recently for a training course and found the temperature uncontrollable, even to the point of having the windows wide open in the middle of January.
The staff were very helpful throughout the week ensuring that refreshments were prompt and plentiful.
The hotelroom was kept clean and well stocked throughout my stay and while the finish to the hotel room was not perfect, it was functional.
I had no complaints with the food, having very tasty meals from the bar menu twice and enjoying the meals immensely.
Good facilities throughout.

Recently stayed here for a wedding and the room we had was very large, and newly decorated. The bed was extremely comfortable and had a great view of the lake and surrounding countryside.

I saw into one or two other rooms and noticed that they had yet to be refurbished and looked VERY dated, but I was very happy with my double room - very modern, and the photos on the website don't do it any justice.

If I went back, I would be sure to ask for one of the nice ones in advance.

The wedding went quite well. The food was good, although the recurring theme here seems to be lack of staff for larger events. Some people were finishing their course as other were just being served (and we has less than 100 people for the meal).

Was disappointed the bar shut so early - for a big event I would have hoped that they would be able to extend their license past 11pm... The drinks prices weren't great either; I was buying drinks for me and the other half all night, and there was very little change from a tenner on each trip to the bar... (I seem to remember a pint of lager was in the region of £4)

Breakfast was full English, plus a very large choice of teas, breads, pastries, coffee, jams and spreads, croissants etc etc etc. Very filling. VERY short on staff though for breakfast - 50+ people and I think there was only one person serving. Took a long while for the full english to come out, but just gave us more time to scoff the pastries which quickly ran out.

I would go back, but only to use it as a base, and if I was very picky over which room I was being allocated.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for one of the newly decorated rooms. The older rooms like ancient, with mint gree...

Took advantage of this offer with my daughter - great to see the place SO busy on a Monday evening. Restaurant in the evening was very good, room a little dated but OK, treatments were OK as part of a package. Staff very friendly. Nice and relaxing all in all.

I took advantage of the amazing deal Groupon were offering at this hotel and booked for a friend and I to stay on 8th Dec. After reading several negative reports about the hotel on this site we feared the worst. How wrong we were. The staff were extremely pleasant and very helpful. The hotel was lovely and warm and the bedroom was a good size and equipped with everything we needed for an overnight stay, although I must admit the pillows were hard.I used the gym facilities and was pleasantly surprised at the variety of equipment. We both had a neck and back massage and the only critisism is the bed in the treatment room did not have a hole in the top for you to lie face down.

Lunch was served in the bar and the £15 allowance, provided a well cooked substantial meal. We reserved a table in the restaurant for our evening meal and the food was delicious, very reasonably priced and could easily compete with a top class restaurant.

Overall our stay was very pleasant and we will certainly be making a return visit.

Room Tip: Our room was at the rear of the hotel overlooking the gardens

We used a Groupon Voucher, a present from our daughter. However we did upgrade to the Honeymoon suite Room 31 for an extra £30. Fabulous bedroom, huge beautiful carved bed; (though not the fourposter as per the website). Bathroom lovely with double shower. Unfortunately the sitting room looked like a dentist's waiting room - sparse, tv 5' high on the wall. 2 black leather sofas facing each other, very large coffee table and a few cushions; the ceiling & wall lights were very bright against the cream coloured walls. The focal point in the room seemed to be the high level tv rather than the fireplace. It would only take a day and little cost to transform this to a cosy romantic love nest; i.e. paint the walls and ceiling a warmer colour, add a standard lamp and table lamp, candles and cushions & rug, pictures and a couple of classy ornaments. LOWER the tv to eyelevel when sat down and re-position the seating to perhaps an L-shape. The food was lovely and the staff very welcoming and helpful. The Wild Boar Restaurant was very cosy - loved the decor in there. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Many thanks from a couple of old timers. Corinne & Mike
