We were braced for the worst visiting Zhuzhou but were pleasantly surprised by the large, well-appointed and mostly clean rooms.
We were the only "lao wei" (foreigners) staying in the hotel. Usually, that's not a great sign for a Chinese hotel. But unlike other business hotels, this place DOESN'T stink of cigarettes.
We stayed in a "deluxe room," the second tier of pricing. It had two large single beds. The bathrooms are a bit dated but clean enough.
The Chinese restaurant on the second floor was extremely clean, with a great menu (and photos and English descriptions of the dishes). The waitresses were extremely attentive and helpful and the food was first-rate.
We had a great dinner for 275 yuan, with more food than the four of us could eat. Don't confuse this place with the gross-looking Western buffet on the same floor.
The ethernet-based Internet in the rooms worked fine. The TVs are older cathode-ray models but get HBO and CNN.
The location is right in the middle of a busy shopping street, not far from the Pizza Hut and KFC (if you're into that kind of thing) and a five minute walk to the Carrefour, a massive French Wal-Mart-type department/groceries store.
The somewhat bleak health club on the 10th floor has a couple of modern treadmill machines and a bench press, but not much else. There's a ping pong table.More
