“Great attraction.”
Reviewed 3 September 2013

Was very impressed with the Benxi Water Caves & how well it was organized. We got there early so there were no long lineups to contend with but started filling up as we exited the caves. The walk through is very wet & cold but the coats provided for the boat tour are warm & cozy. The high ceilings of the cave & the strategically placed lights make for a wonderful atmosphere & a great view of the stalactites & stalagmites inside the cave. All in all, time well spent in this natural wonder.

“An Amazing Cavern”
Reviewed 1 September 2013

I've been travelling to Shenyang for over 5 years and this summer was the first time I was told about these caves

The Benxi Water Caves are located 30 km east of Benxi, in Liaoning province, China; approx a 1.5 hour drive from Shenyang. The Benxi Water Caves are a forest of stalactites and stalagmites within a cavern system lit by coloured lighting. A river 3,000 metres long, 2 metres deep and flows through a giant 5 million-year old cavern system. Temperature inside the cave is constant throughout the year, at 12C. It is warm in winter and cold in summer, also it is open around the year.

I understand that its probably the longest underground river navigable by boat!

It's a bit pricey at 180RMB each considering its location, and the effort to get there but highly recommended.

“Very impressive cave”
Reviewed 24 August 2013

The tour of the cave begins by walking through several caverns, and then you taken an electric boat down the river through the cave. Coats are provided for the boat ride. The boat ride inside the cave is actually quite extensive...probably about 20 minutes long. After the boat ride there are other things to explore...we found where the river emptied out, my husband climbed the mountain to look out over the valley. I was not very impressed with the accompanying museum and we could not find the petrified wood museum (we found plenty of signs pointing different directions). It was raining the day we were there, so we did not look for the river rafting. While we did not find this listed in any of the China guides we consulted for the trip we found it quite impressive.

“Benxi Water Cave ... A dream in light and sound”
Reviewed 22 November 2012

The Benxi Water Caves are located 30 km east of Benxi, Liaoning province, China. Nearest intercity Bus stop Benxi. 4 hrs ride from Dalian** and 1.5 hours ride from Shenyang**.
A day trip is sufficient, but would be bit hectic, if you are not staying in Benxi overnight.
Entry fee was 180 RMB including sight seeing bus (nothing great, walkable), caves thing to see ... and rafting (The most important part of the trip), & geological museum (which we could not make because of lack to time). we also missed the trek to the hill top !!!!
Easiest way to go there is to take the bus from Shenyang South bus station to Benxi city then take the shuttle bus to caves around 10RMB. Cars are also available at around 60~80RMB -- (bargaining must) (from Benxi city to the Benxi water caves). Available food and snacks around the Caves were very expensive, so best to have a good meal around Benxi city where the food was nice and clean enough for any taste...
Inside the caves are very cold, even in september, but lucky .. big jackets are provided, free of charge inside the cave .. while going for the rafting (in motor driven small boats, with about 6-8 passengers)
Be very careful of water sipping from the roof, so delicate or sensitive electronics gadgets, be best kept within cover.
Trying to take still pictures, would not give good memories (because of the low lights and moving boat), so better try video photography.
Weekdays are normally NOT too crowded
Toilets were pitiful.
** Shenyang is reached by overnight trains from beijing ... and it also has an international airport, but not sure, how far it is from the bus terminus.
**Dalian is reached by overnight trains from beijing ... and it also has an international airport.
A small video is taken inside the caves is uploaded at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRTvbuGqFjo&feature=player_detailpage
