After reading all the positive reviews I booked this hotel for a two night stay in Taos with my family of 4. We have two small kids, ages 4 and 8. We booked a loft room. First off, the ladder is steep and at the top of the ladder there is absolutely no fence of some sort around the open area to ensure no one falls. Not safe for under 6, even questioning that!

Additionally, this is a rustic hotel. I don't mind rustic, but it is not really clean! The pillows were yellow and did not have a pillow case protector. GROSS!

The front desk guy was super nice and tried to fix it the best he could. However, he seems to be solo in taking care of this place. This would be a great hotel for the show Hotel Impossible to come and "fix".

This hotel is rustic, needs updating, and most importantly the TLC that the original owner had for the unique building he built. Unfortunately, 30 years and 3 owners later, the hotel is deteriorating and not as it should be be.

My family has stayed at Austing Haus for the past 4 years and we hope to stay there again this year. It is a great value with breakfast included and clean rooms. The owner and staff are friendly and helpful. We also love the architecture and warm feel of the wood construction.

The service at the Austing house was great, and the people very welcoming and nice. This bed and breakfast is an older building, made with pegs and lumber instead of nails. The rooms are basic and need updating, but the owners recently put in a nice hot tub, and who stays in the room when you are sking! The breakfast ( included) was great. They also don't require a 5 night stay like a lot of places!

The owners were incredibly helpful and kind! They helped accommodate our needs during New Years Eve weekend. They employees were willing to help us in any way possible, including a flexible shuttle service and helping to find lost items. I was also pleasantly surprised when the owner helped me clean the snow off of my car as we were headed out. I highly recommend this B&B and will stay here again for my next Taos visit!

We were looking for a romantic getaway, and this was not the place. Having stayed with our friends at a ski-in, ski-out establishment, the Austing Haus does not come close to comparing. We were promised a king loft room, and got a "loft" with two queens. Not sure how one would be able to bring a suitcase, up to the "loft" which one gets to after navigating up a ladder through a small hole in the ceiling. We were very disappointed at the cleanliness of the room, as well as the surprise in the toilet. On a bright note, the receptionist was very polite and seemed accommodating. We decided to move on and stay elsewhere, so I can't comment on the breakfast. What I can say is this; If you make a reservation to stay here your money is gone, whether you stay or not. Unless you cancel seven days in advance. Make sure you get clarification on their cancelation policy before giving up your credit card number. Seeing the room was enough to make us leave. We did not get our money, or even a portion of our money returned. It's the busy season, business is business, got it. My wife and I were looking for a nice place to sit by the fire, enjoy each others company and be cozy before we leave for Afghanistan, AGAIN! Instead, taped to the fireplace was a hand written note that said "insurance does not allow wood fires". Thanks Austing Haus! Enjoy my money, you deserve it!

Great location, very friendly and accommodating staff. The people made the stay there very enjoyable. Great breakfast in the morning. Nice ambiance. Good rooms, not 5 star, but cozy, warm, and clean. I would recommend this to anyone going for the first time to Taos.

While this place is awesome, it is distinctly not a 5 star hotel so one shouldn't come here expecting that. The building is an entirely wood structure, and as such it makes noise as you walk and move. You can also tell that it was hand built by a man who wasn't a professional. Despite all that, though, the ambiance is well worth putting up with the occasional quirk. The employees are incredibly helpful and do everything they can to try and make your stay as pleasant and fun as possible. What's more, you're pretty much central to both the ski area and Arroyo Seco/Taos so you have something to do, regardless of what you're feeling like.

Our stay was during late spring/early summer, and the temperatures remained cool during the day though they were a bit chilly during the night. The rooms we stayed in, however, included a loft that stayed quite a bit warmer than the lower room. The guys here fed us very well with very good food, so much so that all the hiking done during the day was cancelled out by all the good food they shoved at us when we got back.

I cannot say enough about these guys, and I would come again if at all possible.

Room Tip: The laundry room (first floor) and hot tub room (second floor) are located in the center of the comp...
