My most recent stay at Soulton Hall was for a weeklong visit with two large dogs. The Ashton family are fantastic and the food is exceptional. Guests become part of the family....

The garden rooms are beautiful. Soulton is a well kept secret and I would thoroughly recommend this house for anyone planning a special occasion or in need of a relaxing holiday!

We held our wedding weekend celebrations at Soulton Hall on an exclusive rental. A truly magical weekend in September. Its February now and everyone is still talking about the beautiful buildings, the landscape, excellent food but in particular the warm and generous hospitality. Nothing was too much trouble and we were all made to feel very special Thank you.

A delightful country house, run by an incredibly relaxed and friendly family. We had three delicious days, superb food, cosy afternoons reading by the fire, and sumptuous beds. We were very well looked after. Couldn't ask for more.

We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay in Soulton Hall and would be happy to recommend it to everyone. Everyone made us feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. We stayed in the Hill Room which was amazing. Dinner was great too, and the only bugbear was the weather which can hardly be blamed on this delightful place. We'll be coming back.

Room Tip: Ask for the Hill Room.

I have stayed several times over the past few years - both in the main house and in the Keeper's Cottage. The main house is a really special experience, with gorgeous old rooms complete with their wonky charm showing their hundreds of years of history. Yes, the windows aren't sealed to modern standards (that's part of its charm), so you can find a draft, but it's always been warm and comfortable for me.

The Keeper's Cottage is in a great location, down a twisting path through the trees. For someone who now lives in London, it feels like a great escape to the isolated countryside, yet it's still close to the main house. The cottages are a different experience - they don't have the same historic charm, but are still a great place to stay.

It's run by the same family that has lived there for centuries, and they still live in the house, and they have always been very welcoming (including Max, the dog!).

Overall, highly recommended.

My wife and I had tried to visit Soulton Hall for a meal around Christmas 2013 but we could not get a table so we decided to go there on my birthday at the end of January. It was a very wet and windy evening and, as it turned out, we were the only people there for dinner and there was one other guest staying in the hotel.

We were made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived, it soon became obvious that the owner is passionate about his home and heritage and proud of the business he has established there.

During the meal we decided that as the weather was so bad and the food and wine was so good we would order another bottle if we could stay the night. Our desert came with complimentary tooth brush and razor and the room was prepared for us.

We slept in a four poster bed in a room in the main Hall. It was a really comfortable night's sleep. As we both had to go to work the next morning we asked for an early breakfast and it was just as good as the food in the evening.

Soulton Hall is obviously much more than just a restaurant or a hotel, we really felt privileged to have shared an evening in such a historic family home.

Thank you it was one of my most memorable birthday teas!

I treated myself to a weekend at the hall with my girlfriend. Except for the weather everything was perfect. The room in the hall was very spacious, elegant, clean and well equipped. The welcome and service were superb and very friendly. The hall is itself has lots of character as well as history. We both enjoyed ourselves very much especially the candle lit meal. The spinach tamales were particularly good. The grounds and farm are impressive as is the commitment to sustainable living. However, if the weather does not change you will need your wellies!
