“new years eve”
Reviewed 21 August 2013

a large group of us booked for the new years eve party, excellent service ( a little slow ),fantastic dancing, we also stayed over in the bridal suite (it was NYE after all) wonderful room breakfast excellent lots of choice. I really wish they would renovate the rest of the outbuildings, as a local I think the community would benefit from a large function room, or spa in the area, because as it stands now its way too small for most weddings

Room Tip: don't choose a room over the kitchen, unless you like an early start

We stayed for a few days on our way home from Cornwall at the end of our family holiday. We were given a great deal which included breakfast, a three course Sunday lunch and a nice boat trip on the Sabrina in Shrewsbury.

The food was excellent and the rooms were to a very high standard indeed. We had an adjoining room for our (grown up) kids to stay in. All the staff were very friendly and helpful - particularly a young lady called Natalie!

All in all - a lovely end to our holiday at a great hotel with beautiful grounds. Thanks to all at the Old Rectory - we plan to be back sometime!

Room Tip: We had rooms 14 and 15 which were third floor up and had an adjoining door. Very nice rooms.

Lovely hotel and staff, superb food, and all in all great value. Cannot recommend the Old Rectory highly enough.
We spent a lovely weekend celebrating my wifes birthday in the peace and quiet enjoying superb food and being pampered by the attentive staff.
A day spent shopping in Shrewsbury could not even dampen my spirits.
Will definitely be returning as soon as we can both get some time off together.

Room Tip: We booked the half corona suite which overlooked the rear garden

We were staying for the weekend in north Shropshire, and Wem is an ideal base. The hotel is situated in its beautifully-maintained grounds on the outskirts of the town, and our rooms were in the older part of the house. Make sure you ask for them. They were both very comfortable indeed, though there is no lift to them, so you get used to the 24 stairs! It's always lovely to eat in the hotel after a long trip, and our meal on the Friday night was delicious, with locally-sourced food and attentive staff. While there we were always given cheery and helpful service from the front of house staff. All in all a recommended place to stay, and one which didn't hurt the wallet unduly.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms in the older Rectory part of the hotel - atmospheric.

Spent the weekend here to celebrate a family birthday. There were 3 generations in the party and everyone enjoyed the stay.

Staff could not have been more helpful. Meals were good. They put on a special menu for us in the evening.

Hotel is very pleasant and quiet.

I stopped in this hotel whilst visiting friends last summer (2012) and aim to stay here again in the next couple of months. I found this small hotel very special after booking in I was shown to my room - single Executive which was beautifully decorated and overlooked pretty gardens and lawn. The room had tea and coffee facilities, complimentary mineral water and biscuits. I was very impressed. The breakfast which was part buffet and full english breakfast - which included a good selection. The food was lovely. I was very surprised to find this gem and will certainly recommend this hotel to friends and relatives.

We took advantage of a Living Social deal to take a short break at this, which is not that far from where we live. The hotel is located just on the outskirts of Wem, a small pleasant Shropshire town but with not much of interest. The hotel is approached by a short drive through very attractive and well kept grounds. Reception was efficient, friendly and welcoming. Our room (No3) was very clean, well equipped and furnished in keeping with a Georgean rectory. The hotel only has 15 rooms but despite that has an excellent kitchen. We thought the food particularly good. The menu was fairly limited but had enough choice to satisfy most tastes. Breakfast had a good range on the buffet table, including fresh half grapefruits which I haven't seen in a long while and this was followed by the usual range of full English breakfast cooked items. We felt very relaxed in this friendly and clean hotel so it was ideal for a short break. Checkout was efficient and we were given a voucher for a return visit on the same terms as the deal we were on - good marketing. I have noted some negative comments from other reviewers but can't agree re service, professionalism etc. Obviously my comments refer to the room we stayed in. We will cetainly return.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Wycherly? room (3) cost a £10 supplement but worth it.
