“Easter Break”
Reviewed 21 April 2014

My partner and I booked a two night Groupon deal with dinner on the first night included. The Old Rectory is as lovely as shown in the pictures and the staff are very welcoming. We stayed in the Russell room, it wasn't overly large but served it's purpose. The evening meal was okay, too small for my partner's hearty appetite though. The breakfasts were scrumptious, particularly the sausage. There is also a choice of cereals, fruit, yoghurt's and baby Bel cheese and home made jams. When we came down to breakfast on Sunday morning, we discovered much to our delight, a chocolate egg hidden under our coffee cups....what a lovely thoughtful surprise..... We also found the Fox Inn and the Dicken pub ( in walking distance) were great and both had Sky sports. The Old Rectory does not serve food on Sunday evening, so we ate at the Dog and Bull ( approx 4 miles away). We had the carvery and highly recommend this
(would certainly sate any hungry tum) and the quality of the sirloin beef was second to none.
We took a trip into Shrewsbury and parked very near to the Station car park ( The Dana). The town reminded us of a small Chester/York, lots of black and white old buildings and a castle. We highly recommend the Old Rectory and would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: I found the mattress in the Russell room very uncomfortable, it felt cheap and the springs were nois...

Stayed two nights for a weekend away via a groupon deal. We stayed in the King Size Half Corona room, Very good size, very nice room and much better than we expected. Customer service was fantastic and the staff were very welcoming, friendly and went above and beyond and we have very lovely memories from our stay. The dinner at the restaurant was also fantastic. Really enjoyed our stay and will definitely stay there again. Would certainly recommend........

We wanted to have a two night stay away between Christmas and New Year that was quiet, in the country. Far away from the hustle and bustle. Went on-line and The Old Rectory fullfilled our criteria for a two night B&B stay at a very reasonable price of £140.00, for two people, all in. As there was no dinner available on the night of Sunday 29 December, we opted to have Sunday lunch there and sandwiches in the Bar/lounge in the evening. The Sunday Lunch was two courses for £12.95, and didn't disappoint. Lovely fresh starter of prawns and apple. Roast beef to follow. Excellent value for money. We were welcomed into the Hotel by a very attentive young lady who was abley multi-tasking on Reception, Bar and Restaurant. Staff were all extremely friendly, courteous and attentive. Added bonus was that they all seemed very happy in their work.

Room Tip: All the rooms seemed well appointed. We were in Room 8 at the rear. Huge room. King size bed. Roo...

Stayed two nights whilst visiting the area with family . Hotel has a nice country house hotel atmosphere with a genuine warm welcome. Rooms were of a good size , spotlessly clean, well furnished and equipped. As it was December and extremely cold it would have helped if housekeeping had thought to switch the room radiator before we arrived but this was a minor point.
WE ate both nights in the hotel restaurant once from the bar menu and on the second night off the main restaurant menu > Food was of a good quality and very nicely presented. Two minus points ,still not sure if the "battered smoked haddock with chips " was the right combination and the cheeseboard available at a supplement to the desert menu was disappointing and overpriced
Breakfast included in our room rate was served in the conservatory and was excellent .
Really enjoyed our stay and our visit was enhanced by the courteous, friendly and very professional staff. They deserve a special mention. Would certainly recommend..

Had a 2 night stay following an enjoyable visit a year ago. Beautiful Georgian building with tastefully landscaped grounds, in which we were encouraged to walk our elderly greyhound before dropping her off at the local kennels. Staff (most notably Claire) were all very friendly and both breakfasts & the evening meal we had on the first night were faultless. There was a wedding reception on while we were there, which didn't in any way impinge on our space, in fact added to the general bonhomie of this friendly hotel. The dining room & the conservatory are smart, comfortable places to eat, especially with the early morning autumn sun cascading into the latter. Room 6 was well equipped with fine traditional furniture & a well stocked refreshment tray. All in all & thoroughly enjoyable & relaxing break.
PS. You must pop into The Fox, less than 100 metres away & one of the friendliest pubs we've ever visited.

We had a 2 night break at this hotel and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our deal included dinner on the first night from a set menu which was fairly limited but perfectly adequate and breakfast was fabulous. The room was large and airy with huge windows overlooking the gardens. As well as the usual tea tray, a bottle of water was left in the room each day. I found the whole place quite charming with the antique furniture, chandeliers, grand piano in the drawing room and creaky staircase. A refreshing change from large faceless chain hotels.

Room Tip: We paid a supplement to upgrade to room 16 which had an ornate wooden carved king size bed.

We stayed for 2 nights at this great country hotel, and although we had the small double ( will make sure on future bookings we don't get that again) it was well appointed. Friendly staff, comfortable lounge and a great conservatory.
