Review of The Citadel

My title says it all - absolutely perfect in every way including the wonderful owners who could not have been more helpful. The setting, countryside views, tasteful colour schemes and immaculate presentation is a joy to behold! So elegant.

For location alone you'd have to go long way to beat The Citadel in terms of stunning location, back group and gorgeous gardens. However, even without this you will not find a better wedding venue in terms of value and flexibility. Our wedding in June 2018 was everything we could have wanted and more. Alex is the perfect host and will go over and above, she genuinely loves weddings. I would highly recommend The Citadel for a wedding ........ can we do it again?!

We stayed in the Round suite for a night in this truly stunning Grade 1 listed building. Sylvia was the perfect host; welcoming, helpful and informative about the local area and local dining options. Our turreted room was amazing having three windows with breathtaking views across the countryside. The en suite bathroom was huge with a free standing bath and fab shower. The breakfast was delicious, as was the cake we arrived to. A wonderful experience we cannot wait to repeat soon!

We wanted a lovely place to stay near Shrewesbury and were told there were no great hotels. We had visited the gardens of The Citadel on a tour the year before, and decided to stay there. We were not disappointed. We had the Tower suite, with views in many directions. It was huge and very comfortable. The bathroom was also huge, and once we decided that the "drain dragon" was friendly (it growled whenever the drains were used, we found the bathroom very comfortable as well. We were the only guests during our 3 night stay.

WiFi only worked in the dining room, but that didn't bother us much.

Sylvia, our hostess, could not have been nicer. She was very concerned that we enjoy an evening meal at a place not too distant, and made sure to reserve for us. Breakfast was essentially what we wanted, accompanied by yummy fresh fruit. And the gardens, including the roses, were lovely as well. The only difficulty was finding the place since it is not on a named road and there are no signs near major roads.

Room tip: The tower suite is best.

Step into another world. A world of elegance and beauty surrounded by the most beautiful gardens and trees one can imagine. Simply heavenly!
The hospitality is warm and generous. It is like finding a little oasis, yet not really that far from the major town of Shrewsbury, where there are so many interesting activities and historical places relating to Darwin. Always a must visit on my UK itinerary.

We had the most amazing weekend at the Citadel celebrating our wedding. Not only was it the most beautiful venue, but Alex ensured that everything went perfectly. Alex and Sylvia were just fabulous, the rooms were superb, and breakfast was delicious. Nothing was too much trouble and i wouldn't hesitate to recommend this venue to anyone. Thank you so much for making my wedding as wonderful as it was. xxx
