“The perfect midway stop. Great hosts. Great food. Great value!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 January 2010

After the drive down from Calais ' Appleltons Farm house' was the perfect stop off point breaking the back of the journey to Carcassone.
This place is a real gem, the rooms were very clean and comfortable and owners Edward and Malcolm were great hosts.
We had dinner there (highly recommended) the food was fantastic and plentiful as the wine and conversation flowed in front of the blazing log fire. Most memorable, I will defiantly return.
Ray and Jacqui.

We promised ourselves we'd go back and we did. This time we stayed longer and had a wonderful time, sightseeing, a trip to the Chateau at Valencay and quite a bit of simply sitting in the sun

I’ve stayed a few of times now. This B&B in peaceful countryside, is a great find as I’m often driving the A20 and it’s the perfect place to break the journey. Edward and Malcolm, always welcoming, are excellent hosts. The large garden is great to unwind in before a lovely home-cooked meal. Comfortable clean rooms, own bathroom and wifi access if you have to be connected. Breakfast easily meets the standards set by the previous evening’s meal. I’d be happy to stay longer and borrow Leo the dog for some long walks exploring the area if I could.

We stayed at Appleton's for 5 days and we have asolutely nothing to complain about whatsoever. Malcolm, Edward , Leo, and not forgetting Gobi, made us feel so welcome. The room was clean and comfortable, the farmhouse lovingly restored through Malcom's very hard work, the food cooked by Edward was delicious, and the gardens were a delight to sit in with a very welcome drink after a day out exploring on our motorbike and enjoying some great biking roads. There was plenty of space to park cars and our motorbike. We arrived as guests and we left as friends. It was a very different experience for us to sit with other guests for breakfast and dinner but we really enjoyed it and Edward and Malcolm are excellent hosts which made for a great atmosphere. This area of France is relatively unknown but if you do decide to travel around there (and it is well worth it) then you can choose no better place to stay than Appletons.

Our visit to Appleton's was a delight. Upon arrival we were given drinks and within the hour were relaxing in the pool after our long drive. The room we were in (Yellow room, ground floor) was just right: comfy bed, clean bathroom, good shower. We had decided to eat at Appleton's that night and were very glad to have done so. We ate with the hosts, Edward & Malcom, under the pergola in the garden on a beautifully-set table surrounded by fairy lights. The food was four courses of excellently-prepared, home-cooked fare (including corn on the cob straight from the garden and delicious duck breasts) and the wine was good quality and free-flowing (I seem to remember there was some fizzy stuff consumed too...). The next morning we were treated to a delicious breakfast before going off exploring. Our further nights there (5 in total) were just as perfect; dinners comprising both good food and great dinner companions (the other guests) accompanied by relaxing sleep - what a great way to spend our holiday. Edward and Malcolm were attentive at all times and tried their utmost to ensure that all the guests were happy and well-catered for. We certainly got our money's worth and will be going back...

It is said that no holiday satisfies everyone because of the diversity of desires and expectancies. Well; go to Appleton's with the family and disprove the theory. The hosts, Edward and Malcolm are superb. Warm and welcoming, humourous and hard-working, entertaining and caring - and good cooks to boot. Lovely rooms, terrific showers, comfortable beds - and then there is dinner. Either under the gazebo or Malcolm's new pergola, the evening dinner parties are a joy. New guests every night, each with their own story to tell as good food and fine wine is consumed with relish as the gloaming gently washes over you. "Every night?" Yes, we stayed for 14, the longest stop-over the Appleton's have ever known. Indre is a new area of France for us but it is a treasure trove of things to do. Float your boat on the river, walk the marked randonees, cycle the empty lanes or visit the many places filled with history and culture. Whether it is the Romans or Chopin's mistress, there is some here to fire the imagination The fortnight felt like 5 days and when we left all four of us said yes to a return visit.

A small & not very clean room. All bad bits that typify English B&B's abroad, without the bonuses. Made me so pleased to get home again and grateful it was only a 1 night stop.

The Wine Cellar is 16 square meters and has a wet room within the 16 square meters so we don't consider it to be a small poky room. This double was given to this single traveller at our normal single rate.
As I am sure discerning people will see from our other reviews our home is never dirty, maybe a few dog hairs from Leo our faithful dog, décor is a personal taste and this guest obviously did not appreciate what we like, our other guests have never said bad things about our home.
Please do see what other establishments this guests has stayed in to make your own mind up.
