If you are staying here, you must be visiting a Toyota related company or supplier. Otherwise stay closer into Nagoya as there is much more to do, and there are actually restaurants there. There’s not much in Anjo. Onto the hotel.
The Grand Tiara Anjo is the only Western Style hotel in the area, the rest are Japanese Business or Love hotels. The location is directly across from the JR Mikawa-Anjo station & is very convenient if you are traveling by train. (Actually most of the hotels in this area are in about a 3 block radius of the train station.)
The exterior is very nice, and the common areas are of a style trying to be like a European hotel. They really go for holding weddings here and have this large gothic style chapel. The food in the main restaurant was very good & they have a very nice bar. Staff was mostly conversant in English so communication was not an issue in most cases & very responsive.
The hotel rooms are of a Western style with travertine bathrooms and full tubs, and US sized beds. Free internet hookup and a proper desk were included. The down side is once you leave the common area, the room floors are very shopworn. They are clean, but this place needs a remodel. This is the only hotel I’ve visited in Japan that had stained & worn carpeting. It had been cleaned, but just looked really bad. There were many nicks in the walls & furniture and items just looked tired. But the bedding was in great shape & a new TV set up was installed.
I was staying with a group for three nights & we were all on the 7th floor, so I asked the others if the carpet & room issues was just with my room, but no, it was in all the rooms. There must be better floors since I wouldn’t see any bride accepting the condition of these rooms for a wedding night, especially with the standards the typical Japanese woman has.
I give this place an acceptable rating and would use it again if I had to have a western style hotel since it was clean, but I would suggest looking at the Hotel AB or the Mikawa-Anjo City Hotel (I have stayed at the City Hotel). They may have typical business hotel smaller rooms & beds, but the quality/price ratio is better and the Hotel AB looked freshly redone. It would be worth crossing the street for dinner or a drink here.
