I went to the Toyota kaikan museum with great expectations. Sadly, I did not find the museum worth the long train ride from Nagoya (1.5 hrs). The Kaikan is half museum, half showroom. I would not recommend the visit of the museum for itself. But, I gave a 3* review because of the Toyota plant visit. After a short bus ride, there is a guided tour of one of the many plants in the Toyota region. The day i visited, we were able to see the assembly line from one end to the other. The automation and pace of the employees are very impressive. The staff was extraordinary, the visit super interesting and free!

Incredible visit to Toyota's HQ. The Kaikan is well presented, and some good overview of the manufacturing process. I thought it was good to see this first, then go on the tour of the plant, because in the kaikan, there was lots of displays about the robotic side of production.
The factory tour itself was to the Takaoka plant, where Corollas are made, and this covered the assembly area, where humans and robots work alongside. The logistics involved in creating the hyper-efficiency shown in that factory must be seen to be believed!
The trumpet playing robot at the Kaikan is of course unique and an "only in Japan" moment, simply amazing.

The tour was very well guided (very friendly tour guide) and showed the production line system very well. There's even some interactive activities to demonstrate the skills required to work on the production line. There's even a Toyota/Lexus showroom on site so you can try all the different cars.

What a day it was. First visit the factory-as a plant tour to see assembly line of Toyoto Prius, a guided tour as a courtesy of Toyoto.
Then see the Kaikan museum of cars tracing from innovation beginning to today and futuristic. Oh-Nothing but fantastic-only Japanese can do it. If any one in Japan and any where near Nagoya do not miss it.
History beckons-"My name is on every car," said- Mr.Akio Toyoda, the president of Toyota Motor.
But his name is Toyoda where as the company and car is Toyota. The company started by Toyoda's grandfather did indeed have his name -- Tokyo Toyoda Motor Sales -- until 1936, when a stroke of the brush changed it to Toyota. what a numerological cahnge in name made it. so is their products.

Loved the Kaikan Hall - well worth a visit to see the range of great Toyota vehicles, the trumpet playing robot and new forms of personal mobility! This is where the future is!
