I went recently after many years and it has changed for the better. The port is a mixture of markets. There is a real, serious commercial fish market which handles a big volume of fish but it is not easily accesible to tourists and a market for tourists to enjoy the local fish and the fish brought from far away by the fishing boats. It is fun rain or shine. It can be crowded on weekends because it is also a destination for Japanese as it is within easy access through the Tomei highway and local roads, and serves as an entrance or exit from West side of beautiful Izu peninsula. You can eat there or take away. There is a park nearby. If weather is fine take the short boat tour, 1000 yen for adults for a 30 minutes. You may have a wonderful view of Mount Fuji, although if the weather is fine you will see Mount Fuji from many corners. You can also take an elevator to the big tsunami gate, I believe is 100 yen for adults, as an additional sight. In all a pleasant outing.
