We have traveled to Italy before and we knew that it can be hard to find access to the sea. Public beaches can be dirty and we worried about the security of our car. So before our trip to Southeast Sicily, I did a lot of searching on line. I found Lido il Solleone, which loosely translated, means "Heat Wave Beach." It is a beautiful spot, and we were thrilled to find out that the hotel we were staying at, Hotel Borgo Pantano, outside of Siracusa, had an arrangement with Lido Il Solleone, and the concierge there gave us excellent directions. You have to drive over some pretty isolated roads to get there, but once there, it was marvelous. We rented four chaise lounges, which the Italians call "little beds" and a big umbrella, "ombrellone." The owner, Adriano, the lifeguard, Paolo, and the whole staff were extremely nice. The snacks we purchased for lunch, crostini, were sensational. A very relaxing and joyous day swimming and sunning on the Ionian Sea.

Quiet (even in August!), clear water, friendly owners who let us in even though we were a couple of euros short of the umbrella hire fee.. You could even grab a drink or food in the bar/cafe if you have some change! Would definitely go back if we had longer in Sicily!

Make sure you have enough cash on you before going!!

Hi,
thanks a lot for your good review and your 5 stars, we're working so much to give our host a special day on the beach, here, in Sicily. We hope you come back for a new and longer trip.
We promise we put in the credit card payment for the next year... there is only a long, long list of burocratics "sicilians" problems...
Regards,
Dorotea

would like this place to stay as it is, with the exception of August it is quiet.
Solleone would be a great place for night music, cocktails and a rustic BBQ Sicilian style.

Thanks a lot for your message.
We don't change the ingredients of our success for this summer too.
So it will be again barbecue and relax on the beach.
This summer we will be open all nights for diner and traditional sicilian recurrences.
Regards.

A must do in your trip in Sicilia. Owned by a young french-sicilian couple, Lido Il Solleone is definitively the best place to enjoy those wonderful beaches of the Mediteranean sea. Close enough to the village to enjoy it, far engouh to avoid the crowd. It's clean, quiet and you will find enough space to chill out under your umbrella, lying on a comfortable deckchair. You can enjoy some delicious fresh salads and sandwiches prepared by Dorothée, or having a chat sharing a delicious experesso with Adriano, a truly Sicilian from Avola. In addition of this beautiful beach, you will feel the authentic charm of this Island.
We highly recommend this place to anyone.
