We have traveled to Italy before and we knew that it can be hard to find access to the sea. Public beaches can be dirty and we worried about the security of our car. So before our trip to Southeast Sicily, I did a lot of searching on line. I found Lido il Solleone, which loosely translated, means "Heat Wave Beach." It is a beautiful spot, and we were thrilled to find out that the hotel we were staying at, Hotel Borgo Pantano, outside of Siracusa, had an arrangement with Lido Il Solleone, and the concierge there gave us excellent directions. You have to drive over some pretty isolated roads to get there, but once there, it was marvelous. We rented four chaise lounges, which the Italians call "little beds" and a big umbrella, "ombrellone." The owner, Adriano, the lifeguard, Paolo, and the whole staff were extremely nice. The snacks we purchased for lunch, crostini, were sensational. A very relaxing and joyous day swimming and sunning on the Ionian Sea.
