“Extremely relaxing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 June 2014

I visited the spa with my mother after somebody purchased it as a gift for me, I was looking forward to a relaxing day and I wasn't disappointed. We arrived at 10am and were booked in quickly and were shown the facilities. We stayed until 6pm and had 3 treatments each. All areas are very clean, the food service in the bistro was prompt and the food was nice. All the staff were chatty & friendly.

It was not the first time we have visited Formby Hall, as I had my wedding reception there in 2010 and have visited many times since, The service & facilities are always of a high standard, the food is excellent and the rooms feel luxurious.

Looking forward to my next visit.

I booked a spa day for my mum and myself for her 60th birthday. I was very disappointed to begin with... The robes are awfully rough and tatty, my mums had a hole in it. The thermal suite is tiny and very tired- the steam room in here is barely steamy and had an awful noise that was so loud we couldn't sit in it for more than a couple of minutes. The floors in the sauna were very grubby. A hen party then arrived and they got progressively louder throughout the day and brought crisps and alcohol into the thermal suite. It improved when we went down to the pool- although the children's swimming lessons were very noisy. The jacuzzi and steam room down by the pool are much nicer and once the lessons stopped we were able to relax. Lunch was pleasant and the staff were lovely- they changed our wet towels for us when we asked and were very helpful. The relaxation room is very nice and quite. The treatment (55 min facial) was
Lovely but only lasted about 40 mins. Very expensive for what it is and I doubt I'd return or recommend. Not bad if you want to stay local but much more modern places with similar facilities near by.

Dear Bex3005,

Thank you for taking the time to post your review regarding your recent visit to Formby Hall Golf Resort & Spa, I'm very sorry that you felt disappointed with the standards during your time here.

The robes are due to be replaced mid June, they are provided by an external supplier and our new contract will begin very soon. We did recently require a new steam generator for the spa which has now been fitted and is back to full working order.

I have forwarded on a copy of your review to our Spa Manager so that he can investigate some of your comments further, if you could please advise the date and time of your booking that would be helpful? Food and drink is not permitted in the relaxation facilities so I am concerned that you mentioned a hen party did bring some in. In relation to the treatment time we do have a 55 minute facial which incorporates a 5 minute consultation so the hands on time is in fact 50 minutes, the only reason a treatment time should be shortened is if the guest was late.

Thank you once again for taking the time to review, I do hope that you would consider visiting the Resort again in future, we have some great summer offers planned that represent great value,

Kind regards

Viisted the spa as a birthday treat. The facial and head massage was very relaxing, just wish it could have lasted longer. The thermal suite had no drinking water and it was extremely warm in the steam room. The room was lovely with beautiful furnishings. The dinner and breakfast were fantastic and there was lots of it. The public areas ie the 19th hole and the restaurants were a bit dated and dark but it was a very enjoyable in lovely quiet surroundings.

Room Tip: We were on the ground floor facing the car park and this was really quiet

Thank you for taking the time to post a review on to Trip Advisor, I'm glad that your stay with us was an enjoyable one.

I have asked the Spa Manager to ensure that the water dispensers in the Spa area are maintained on a daily basis, they are part of the daily checks so there should be no reason the water had run out, I'm very sorry if it had during your visit so please accept my apologies.

I'm very glad to read that the bedroom facilities and food during your stay were of a high standard.

We look forward to welcoming you back to the Resort again very soon, there are some great offers planned for the summer months so I hope one of those would be of interest to you.

Kind regards

Visited as as part of an over night spa offer with my sister.

We arrived at the spa and our treatments first. We were given a robes and slippers the robes had seen better days and were very warn not fluffy. We had booked 2 treatments each we both had the facial and my sister had the massage and I had a foot treatment. Both treatments were very enjoyable. We were given a double treatment room which didn't bother us but may do some people depending who you go with.

The rest of the spa was lovely but the steam room was out of order. The facilities are on the small side so if it was busy it would be hard to find space especially in the relaxation room.

after the spa we checked into our room which was a very spacious twin room with both a bath and shower. The room had a fridge which was handy. The only issue with the room was the tv every now and again would brake up but apart from this the room was great. We were on the first floor and it seemed very quiet.

Our package included cocktail vouchers and the cocktails were lovely all freshly made and very tasty. It seemed the timing of the offer was changed from the time of booking from 6-8 to 4-6. Not sure why this was.

In terms if food we had both a 2 course evening meal and breakfast included. The evening meal was lovely and portions very generous would highly recommend the lamb shank. Breakfast was a hot and cold buffet which was lovely all the food was warm. Although there did seem to be a lack of croissants and pain au chocolate

Would defiantly go on a spa package again

Dear Claire R,

Thank you for posting your review on to TripAdvisor, I'm very glad that your stay was an enjoyable one and your treatments relaxing.

I will pass on your comments to the Management at the Resort, I believe the steam rooms did have an issue with the steam generator which has now been rectified. We have 7 treatment rooms at the Resort 2 of which are doubles, many of our guests actually prefer these rooms however it should be advised upon booking that you have been reserved a double rooms and is that ok, I'm sorry if this was not the case during your booking process.

I will ask our maintenance manager to have a look at the TV reception in the room allocated as we haven't had any other complaints regarding this.

The cocktail offer has changed quite a bit in response to our guests comments, we found that many guests wished to have their cocktails prior to dinner so moved the time earlier so it didn't overlap with the peak dinner times.

I'm glad you found the food provided at the Resort to be of a high standard and will pass on your compliments to the Kitchen brigade and ask them to ensure more pan au chocolates and croissants are provided for breakfast,

Thank you once again of your comments, we love to hear feedback as it helps us to identify where improvements can be made.

Kind regard

After arriving at the resort for a weekend of golf , I met up with others for a bite and coffee the bar.
Upon returning to my car to prepare for the golf I found my rear screen smashed and golf clubs stolen. This happened within an hour of my arrival at approximately midday.
The hotel staff were informed and CCTV made available to the police, I am yet to hear the result ?
The staff were otherwise helpful and sympathetic and provided me with clubs for the game.
My point would be to recommend guests to avoid the overflow car park if at all possible,
Mike.

Dear MichaelM,

Thank you for taking the time to post your review online, I'm very sorry that the issue regarding your car being broken occurred and prompted you to post your review.

I have been advised that the Hotel dealt with your break in as soon as possible and followed the procedure we have in place, I know the Police have been into the Resort to collect a copy of the CCTV from the time of your visit and provided a crime reference number for you to follow up.

We do have signage present at the Resort asking our guests not to leave belonging in their cars, we provide storage in the Bedrooms and Concierge lodge for guest to store their luggage or clubs. Unfortunately there are some people who do not respect others and take the opportunity to damage or steal belongings, we do have CCTV, signage and regular car park patrols taking place to ensure the Resort is as safe as possible in all 3 car parks we provide.

I'm very glad our Proshop staff were able to source some clubs for you to use during your round. I hope that you manage to get your clubs replaced and the Police are able to obtain the relevant info from the CCTV.

Kind regards

Having been given a golf, dinner bed and breakfast package for my 40th birthday, I was really looking forward to a break without our 4 and 6 year olds. After much planning and luck putting it all into place, we had a great round of golf on a very well kept course. Friendly staff.

The hotel check-in was smooth and standard double room really comfortable and nicely dec'd out.

Were really looking forward to dinner (3-course included in package), having read this hotel's description of their restaurant on their website: "Thirty Seven at Formby Hall offers a taste experience like no other. Our reputation as one of the best fine dining restaurants in the region is led by the quality of our food and the thought gone into our menu. Our dinner and lunch menus are changed seasonally, beautifully balanced and of exceptional quality."

Well if having only 6 options on the menu including burger, fish and chips as two of them, I wouldn't rate it as 'fine dining' So we ordered one pan fried duck and a lamb shank accompanied by a bottle of Malbec. 25 minutes after ordering, sorry Sir, we've run out of our soup of the day, would you prefer leek and potato, next, sorry we've run out of duck, and also don't have any more Malbec.

Then for breakfast this morning, ordered smoked salmon scrambled egg - 10 mins later, sorry sir, we don't have any smoked salmon for the scrambled egg. Also no yogurt... You've got to be kidding!

This is a pre-booked hotel where all the covers are 90% hotel guests. With a limited menu, and bank holiday weekend, surely they would've anticipated demand! We discovered we weren't the only ones who couldn't be provided with their choices.

Sadly this experience has badly let down an otherwise pleasant stay.

Dear Paul A,

Thank you for taking the time to post your review and pass on feedback via the agents you used to make your booking. We welcome all feedback from our guests as it helps us to identify areas in which we can improve.

I'm glad that overall your family enjoyed their break however please accept my sincere apologies that your stay was not as enjoyable as it should have been.

I have forwarded on your review to our management team to gain some feedback and it does seem that during the bank holiday we had some issues with our suppliers. We recently appointed a new head chef and as such carried out an audit of our suppliers which did mean we had a shortage of some items. The Restaurant Manager does recall your experience and that he dealt with you at the time. He again offers his apologies that you had the misfortune of experiencing a collection of supply issues.

I do hope that you would consider visiting the Resort again in future, I'm sure that if you did you would experience the usual high standards of food and service we offer.

Kind regards

We traveled here recently and for a golfer, this one is just sublime. For non-golfers, it's OK too, but aside from a fitness center with a pool, there is not much to do for non-golfers here. Aside from that, the hotel itself is very, very nice. Our twin room had a shower stall AND a bathtub, something I had yet to see in England in my price-range of hotels. The room was spacious and had a desk and two other chairs. It was VERY comfy. I would stay here again, though ONLY for golf.

Room Tip: we had a ground floor room off the parking lot. Often, we heard people walking past our room. It d...
