“Pleasant surprise...worth seeing”
Reviewed 8 April 2014 via mobile

Slightly apprehensive with it being a ruin but very pleasantly surprised with the way the castle has been restored with access to many floors that have some great views and some great insight to the history of the castle ...my 12 yr old son loved all the small crevices and holes he could climb in, on and under while unknowingly learning some things along the way.

“Wonderful visit”
Reviewed 23 March 2014

As a local I have not been inside the castle for many years. Took a foreign visitor there last weekend and we enjoyed it as much as she did. Yes it is a ruin but keeping in mind how long it is since the castle was inhabited parts of it, especially the carvings on doorway and fireplaces, are remarkably well preserved and indeed unique I think. The glass covers which partially protect parts of the building do not in my mind detract from it at all. A lot of restoration and preservation work has been done on the building since I last was in it and this costs. You can now go right to the top. The £5.00 entrance fee does not seem unreasonable. There are information boards throughout and the setting is of course superb. We were also greeted by a very friendly and chatty lady at the desk. Memorable visit and would highly recommend.

“LOVELY FAMILY DAY OUT.”
Reviewed 17 March 2014

It was a very pleasant day out for the family. Lots to do and learnt a lot of history without it being boring for the children. A good experience after a disappointing stay at a local hotel.

“Hidden Gem”
Reviewed 27 November 2013

stunning castle ruins with wonderful carvings history and well presented by Historic Scotland
deserves 5 stars - but slightly pricey entrance fee knocks the gloss off a touch

worth seeing and spending a little time exploring - don't miss it if you are near by !
