“Great place to visit for a couple of hours”

We enjoyed our visit here - the sculptures were incredible and the place well signposted and easy to find!!! there is a cafeteria where drinks and snacks can be bought - the exhibition is open from late May to late October and is advertised as the world's largest sand sculpture exhibition

“Stunning craftsmanship fun for adults and kids”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 October 2013 via mobile

Amazing sand sculptures created from new with a different theme each year. Such skill and ingenuity.
Covers a large area. Seen some sand sculptures in Tenerife but nothing like this.
Music theme this year with a range from modern, children's, movies, classics and history.
We didn't go with children but on the day we visited the kids around us were loving recognising people and characters and they and their parents were really enjoying it.
If back in the algarve would go again as different every year.
Constructed in a depression in the ground so heat concentrated, so maybe miss middle of day if visiting in high season.
Well worth the 9€ entry fee for something different.

“Amazing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 September 2013

Thought we would have a morning out somewhere whilst staying in Alvor,. We booked a trip to the international Sand Sculpture Festival in Pera. The transport and driver left a lot to be desired, at times we wondered if we would get there and back in one piece. Having said that the fiesta was absolutely amazing. The theme was music and all types of music were represented. The musicians who were carved out were so life like it was uncanny. There were other sculptures there for children, noddy and his car, the Madagascar animals, toy story Mary poppins to name a few. It's about 9€ entrance fee and the festival runs from May to October. It really is worth making a visit. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

“great attraction”

enjoyed visiting here as part of a Thomson tour, our entrance fee was included in the price of the tour. the theme is changed every year and this year the theme was music and was well worth a visit. it is advised if you visit early evening to were insect repellent to save getting bitten. on site there is also a place to get snacks and drinks. I would recommend visiting last afternoon to early evening as the lighting for photographs is better and its cooler you need about an hour to get around.

“Sand City”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 September 2013

Visited this attraction in September and totally enjoyed it. The sand sculptures are fantastic and you can see that the were made by artists who care about their work. The theme changes every year and this year it is Music. Probably not for very young children as I doubt they will appreciate the work involved or attention to detail achieved, nor indeed many of the artists portrayed in the sculputures. You can get a 10% discount by shopping at the nearby shopping centre in Guia.
