I recently went for a last
Minute family dinner in the pub area of the hotel. I had not been for a couple of years after been a regular visitor previously. I can't believe how bad the food and wine has got. The ladies behind the bar tried their best but there just appears to be a lack of organisation. A large group of people and you need to visit the bar to order and shout over to each other what you are ordering.....a bottle of wine for £10 you think great....paint stripper!! Not enough peroni pint glasses to serve you drink in....the list is endless! The one think I would say that the food was lovely.

As people have said this place is a charming wee pub hotel and could do a lot better with some small changes.

As it was a Saturday night there was also a singer who was playing some good music but couldn't sing.

I don't think I would return to the pub again after this.

I really hope management at the charming wee pub hotel get their act together or it could be curtains.

I stayed here for 1 night during the commonwealth games and had a warm welcome from reception (greeting with a whisky and some shortbread). Romms was a decent size, clean and a lovely freshly cooked breakfast.

We stayed in one of the "bungalows" - lovely, bright rooms with a large bathroom, TV, ironing board & iron, tea making facilities, phone - everything you would expect. Staff were friendly and helpful, giving us all the information we required to get to Glasgow. There is a bus just opposite the hotel going straight to the centre of Glasgow. If you come home later at night, you need to get the train to Cumbernauld then a taxi (office just outside the station). There is a bar at the hotel where food is available until around 9.00pm if you arrive late. We only had breakfast, which was great, though we had to rush to get a train for the Games. Slightly disappointed we couldn't get an early breakfast. Car parks have CCTV and a night porter is available. All in all, very pleasant stay, would recommend it.

July 28th. We arrived at this hotel by a very warm welcome from the reception staff, check in was quick and when they discovered we were there for the Commonwealth games one of them had been the day before and was appalled at the prices and suggested we ordered a pack lunch from the hotel, with a good selection to pick from, what sound advice this was.
The breakfast and evening meals were excellent and the price and selection for the evening meals were very good

With many hotels charging sky high prices around the Games, we booked this hotel 3 months at a reasonable price. We had family room for 2 adults and a teenager.

The hotel is well located with ease of access from the main road from Glasgow to Stirling. The receptionist could not be more helpful with maps and train times as well as a cheeky welcome shortbread and whisky. The room was clean and well laid out with coffee making facilities and TV. The bathroom was spotless with good toiletries supplied.

Breakfast was also of good standard with a selection of fruits including passion fruits - say no more. Only 10 minutes drive to the local train station with free parking and15 minutes by train to Glasgow - this is a gem!

I to my delight came across the Castlecary Hotel while visiting some family, wow the rooms across from the main building are amazing, its like staying in a mini flat with a great tv, clean bathroom excellant shower. Then the real treat comes in the shape of the quirky, old style, fun Poachers Bar, its authentic, and the staff are attentive, chatty and friendly. I sat in the "snug" area at the back and started chatting to a couple who were regular diners, they stated that the Castleary was famous for it's excellant bar food and they cajun chicken burger was a particular favourite, this is what I ordered and yes it was amazing, a huge plateful so make sure your hungry, this with a pint of best was barely a tenner, I even questioned it as I thought the girl had made a mistake. I cant speak highly enough and will def recommend this to anyone and having stayed at a lo of hotels I was shocked to see any negative reviews regarding this hotel, keep up the good work and thanks Castlecary.

Room Tip: the rooms away from the hotel are great fun
