Owner description: Located deep within Talbot Bay in the Buccaneer Archipelago are the Horizontal Waterfalls. Massive tidal movements create a waterfall effect as water banks up against one side of the narrow cliff passage, to be repeated again on the turning tide. The twin gaps are part of the McLarty Ranges, which have two ridges running parallel approximately 300 metres apart. The first and most seaward gap is about 20 metres wide and the second, most spectacular, gap is about 10 metres wide. The falls can only be reached by boat or plane

This trip is an amazing experience and well worth ever cent. The 24 hours is action packed, non stop but not too crazy. The 3 staff dedicated to look after our every minute were profession, hospitable and lovely. Louie the skipper of the multiple boats we went out on, through the falls, cruising and fishing, Emily the chef, her food was just delicious and Sophie the helping hand, they were all excellent. The house boat was luxurious, and comfortable, each room with bathroom facilities. This tour with only 12 guests on board was outstanding and this can be attributed to all the facilities, the professionalism of the staff, the safety and planning. It certainly is a tight operation run so exceptionally well. Louie was extremely informative, he took many opportunities to provide the history of this area. We loved every minute of it and are certainly considering doing the 4 day tour in the future. We passed through the falls on incoming, out going and also just as the tide was turning- each time passing through multiple times. The small gap is only safe to pass through on the tide turning. There was also the flight via seaplane to and from Talbot bay, as well as a helicopter tour around the area.

The tour of course highlights the amazing landscape and the Horizontal Falls- people need to do more than just fly over it- it is so worth seeing it up close and personal.

My husband and I took the 24 Hour Stay tour and it was one of the most adrenaline-filled, exciting 24-hours we have spent in our lives - and this is coming from people that drove a motorhome from our home in California to South America, have spent months at a time travelling in the UK, Brasil, Mexico, Canada, etc. and are now Motorhoming around Australia. In this package, you seaplane to the bay, play with nurse sharks, experience multiple runs through the Horizontal Falls for one direction of tidal flow, possibly go through the smaller Horizontal Falls and if too high (as was with us), ride right up against the falls to feel the power of the water, have a fantastic chef prepared lunch, take an amazing helicopter ride over the falls and around the bay, go fishing (kept catches are tastefully cooked for appetizing bites before dinner), ride the falls again, only catching the opposite direction tide, have a delicious dinner, enjoy social time on the upper deck, sleep in well-appointed and comfortable, clean ensuite cabins, awaken early to take a sunrise cruise up the creek, enjoy a terrific breakfast and experience yet another ride through the falls. We were fortunate that the tides worked beautifully with our schedule as we got to experience the smaller falls and we were present when for about one minute, twice a day, the falls are dead still while the tide changes direction and the water is 'level'. After about a minute, the stationary boat started to drift toward the new direction of the tidal flow and within minutes, the rapids start to appear. The seaplane ride back to Derby was stunning. Between the two of us, we took over 2,000 photos and 30 videos and we still could not capture all of the beauty and the fun of the day. If you are from the U.S. and you are reading this, you definitely should go and don't fash about the cost, you will not regret the expense; however, you will regret not having the experience.

This was an amazing experience from the beginning to end. The seaplane flight flew over some fantastic scenery on the way to the falls. A view of the Horizontal Falls from the plane and later the helicopter ride were spectacular. The crew and accommodation were very good and very clean. The barramundi barbecue was very good as you sat and watched the sunset over Talbot Bay. Just so beautiful. The rides through the falls were exciting with many trips through to satisfy the revhead in us all.
Just do it.

My hubby and I go to Derby every winter to escape the cold down south. One of our most memorable experiences was a trip by seaplane to the Horizontal Falls. A 40 minute plane ride takes you to the fantastic archipelago near Talbot Bay north of Derby. You land near the pontoon that you stay on overnight. The infrastructure is amazing. It’s very hard to describe, you have to see it to really appreciate the work that has gone into the setup. They take you on the fast boats through the falls a dozen times. Awesome!!! Feed the sharks, barramundi barbecue. Early the next morning after a delicious breakfast, back onto the fast boats again, another trip through the falls. Back to Derby by seaplane. We had a wonderful time. The rooms you stay in overnight are great. The whole experience was magic. Thoroughly recommend this trip. Rated 10/10
