I'm still pinching myself that we got to stay here! The traditional style hotel itself is gorgeous. We enjoyed traditional Japanese food & the outdoor onsen was a wonderful experience with the cherry blossom tree in full bloom hanging over us. Magic!

I couldn't wait to spend time in the tranquil Japanese garden. The pond was full of colourful koi & we are extremely grateful to our Japanese friends for taking us there. It's an experience we'll never forget.

Our stay at Sekitei was an unforgettable experience and exceeded our expectations by far. The ryokan has a beautiful Japanese garden and the whole complex is very serene and peaceful. We were welcomed as if we were regular customers and offered delicious iced green tea in the lounge. When we were taken to our room our suitcases were there already, soft Japanese music was playing and the cedar bath was filled with warm water. That evening we were served a traditional Kaseki dinner in our room. The dinner consisted of 11 different courses, all delicious and beautifully presented, a very exquisite dinner prepared by the 70year old chef. What a special treat!! We stayed for 2 nights, it was a very relaxing stay at the end of our trip through Japan. We were picked up and dropped off at the local train station which was about a 15 min drive. We visited Miyajima Island, a taxi took us to the ferry boat and from the pier on the island it was a nice walk to the beautiful shrine complex. Our room was huge, there was a sitting area, a dining area which was transformed at night into the bedroom after the futons were made, another sitting area a small kitchen with fridge, beautiful grotto bathroom and a separate toilet with of course a Toto. Yasuyo, the gracious lady who was assigned to us, took excellent care of us, she was very friendly and thoughtful and thought of the smallest details. She had a small translating device to help translate into English. All in all a wonderful and delightful stay, not cheap, but worth every penny!

I stayed with my wife and her parents to this hotel, which has been in the look and travel program of TV. The Japanese style stay rooms are located separately, as shown in each house, it is the so-called "Hanare". Each room is connected by a inner courtyard, you will go out for a walk from the veranda. It overlooks the Seto Inland Sea in the garden over the wide lawn while drinking sake or beer in the Bar near the entrance. I enjoyed enough of tasting sake (Sake sommelier who is staying at the hotel). And, beautiful cuisine is very delicious! We did enjoy the beautiful kaiseki cuisine in a family of four, slowly. We reserves the lunch "conger eel rice, Ueno" the next day of accommodation, and then, we went to Miyajima. It was a memorable hotel.

Our family had a wonderful stay at Sekitei. We were reluctant to make a reservation at first as it is not in Miyajima, and the price/person was really high. It's turned out to be worth every $ spent!! The Ryokan is about 15 minutes from the pier, in a very nice and quiet location. The buildings and interiors were all beautiful and original, the garden, of course, magnificent though the stream were partly running dry.

The room we had is called Yunagi, it is very large and most comfortable, triple the size of rooms in all 4 other ryokans we've been to before in other areas. The cedar bath and toilet in the room was nicely designed. The view from the room & the large balcony overlooking the inland sea was marvelous, however a bit spoiled by the outside electric wires along the street.

We were most impressed by the dinner, how creatively & stylishly the courses were prepared and set up, most delicious and simply magnificent. The service was also great and efficient. We enjoyed the public onsen very much as well, beautiful and well designed. The water in the outdoor pools was, however, too hot for us to soak in longer than a few minutes. We like that it was not busy, in fact rather private, as they only have 10 rooms for the whole Ryokan.

I've come back and recommended Ryokan Sekitei to quite a few friends, through pictures we took of both the place and the meals. They are now all looking forward to experience their own stay in this wonderful place in future!!

If you wish to spoil yourself in Japan while you are on a holiday, this is it !! Staffs are so helpful and kind. They will even pick you up from Miyajima if you call them in advance.

It is just so peaceful, quiet and special. I recommend a room called " ANNE ANNE" if you are not familiar with Japanese style Onsen. The room has outside and inside Onsens in a room so you don't have to worry about anyone else. You can have a bath anytime you want.

Have a cup of coffee or Sake in the lounge and enjoy the gorgeous garden too.
