“Great getaway with friends”
Reviewed 12 January 2014

We went for a long weekend ski and board getaway with another couple we are friends with and had a good time overall.

The hotel is very nice for the value, it is one of the cheeper options as far as lodging is concerned. The staff are very friendly and helpful, the hotel is very clean, there are two restaurants, and a indoor pool and courtyard hot tubs. The hot tubs were great! felt rely nice after a day of skiing, although if you are traveling with younger children I would recommend to avoid this particular area in the evening. It tends to be filled with parting young adults.

The breakfast buffet is nice and warm! good selection too. It isn't the biggest buffet i have seen, but definitely the warmest.

The Inn its self is a bit of a walk from the ski hill but it isn't that bad, approx 5 min until you can put your ski's on. They do offer a shuttle but we never rely saw it come or go, and to be honest had no idea where you wait to get picked up or dropped off, so we just walked.

Blue mountain over all is VERY BUSY there are people everywhere whether it be the hill or in the village, or in the restaurants. I strongly recommend booking your dinner reservations ahead of time other wise you will find yourself having to order room service or getting take out delivered to your room. I would like to say that reception was very helpful with letting us know what restaurants would deliver to our room. We ended up getting Boston Pizza, it took awhile to get to us, and they didn't think to give us plates or utensils...

They have a skating rink that is in a beautiful location viewing the village, and the hill. Although is it not maintained, we had a very difficult time trying to skate on the very rough ice. I don not recommend for young children or novice skaters. I do how ever strongly recommend the outdoor adventure pools! They are heated outdoor pools that overlook the skating rink, and so warm and fun, good time for youngsters and the young at heart!

I would recommend this place if you have a big group of friends and are fairly good at skiing around people :)

Dear Kylie J,

Thank you for posting a review of your recent visit to Blue Mountain Resort on Trip Advisor, your comments are well received and will be helpful to others considering us as a holiday destination. The Blue Mountain Inn offers standard hotel rooms, unlike the Village suites which are more like a condominium, most with fireplaces and kitchens or kitchenettes. Our associates will be pleased to view your comments in regards to their service delivery, thank you for acknowledging a team that takes great pride in pleasing our guests.

The Inn is home to two very nice restaurants, the Pottery Casual Fine Dining and Jozo’s, both locations offer fabulous menus as well as live entertainment in Jozo’s during our peak season.

With respect to your concern with the outdoor pond turned to ice rink in winter, we checked with our grounds maintenance associates and determined that the rink is maintained daily and regret that you did not find it to be in optimum condition. One must bear in mind that the rink is outdoors and impacted by weather conditions and sheer volume of skaters.

The Plunge Aquatic Centre is located at the Westin and overlooks the Village and pond area, this location is very popular with families, particularly those with young children.

This was THE WORST hotel experience I've ever encountered. We planned our ski trip to Blue Mountain for 3 day 2 nights (Jan. 3rd-5th). Opted for the more expensive inn($260/night over other places costing 1/3) for it's convenient location and higher quality rooms and services.

Upon checking in, the room was clean, beds are comfortable, we were convinced to have 2 nights of good sleep between the two day intense snow trip. To our surprises, I regret to say we expected too much.

On Friday, after getting up at 5am, driving 2hrs to Blue Mountain and ski until around 6pm, we checked in, got some food, hot tub was nice. We went to sleep around 10pm, but there were very loud music coming from downstairs, and some lady in our neighbouring room was laughing and yelling on top of her lungs, this did not stop until after 3am. We did not call in to complain, because we were trying to be understanding that it's Friday night and people are trying to enjoy themselves.

On Saturday, we were up at 7:30am, went out on the trails at 10am, after another intense day, we came back around 7pm. Went to sleep around 11:30pm, Everything was good until 2:30am, when the ear piercing fire alarm woke us up. We got up in confusion and managed to get outside, froze for 30min before we were let back in, apparently there was some kind of equipment malfunction?? Upon returning to our room from the fire fiasco, one of the girls got premature period from the midnight scare and cold! Just when we thought we could try and get back to sleep, a lot humming and beeping noise start coming from the window, it was the snow plow machine! So loud it sounded like a bad industrial generator humming beside me. And this did not stop until 8am, which was the time we 'got up'!

We were thinking, given this situation, the inn management team should come up with an satisfactory compensation plan, after all, we paid good money for good night of sleep, and we got almost no sleep. 50% off our bill or a voucher for a future free night would be the least they can do(I'd rather paid full price for 2 good nights of sleep though). To our surprises, AGAIN! No compensation for the midnight fire fiasco, the front desk clerk, Christina explained to us they are obligated to provide safe occupancy of the hotel, nothing more. (In another word, too bad you came when there was a fire at 2:30am?!) When I explained the snow plow situation, she questioned why I didn't call in and let them know??!! Do they think the loud machine noise running beside the building would not bother anyone? especially after the fire alarm waking everyone up. she finally gave us 10% off! 10%! off a bill over $500!
In the end, I nearly got into an accident because I almost fell asleep at the wheel, and the driving on Sunday night was not pleasant. I had no choice because I was the only driver and people have to get back so they can go to school or work on Monday.

We are season pass holders and were planning to return to Blue Mountain many times this winter, but given the situation and how the management team handled it, Blue Mountain Inn will be the last place we will be staying at. For everyone considering this place, look elsewhere if you want a good night's sleep!

The place has a lot of potential hardware wise, if service were improved, I might give it another try.

Dear Mendacious,

Thank you for sharing some highlights of your snow trip to Blue Mountain Resort with our Trip Advisor readers. We are very sorry to hear you did not thoroughly enjoy your stay with us and can assure you this is not the high standard of service we strive to provide.

On review of your comments we see you were disturbed by some guests in nearby rooms, it is most unfortunate that you did not advise our associates at the front desk of this issue. We have personnel on duty throughout the night that will attend guest rooms to caution them for noise which generally puts a quick end to any disturbance; we regret not having the opportunity to assist you on this occasion.

Unfortunately we experienced a fire alarm on the following night and your night of rest was interrupted once again. Any fire alarm must be treated as a serious matter and priority placed on the safety of our guests and personnel. Our associates are trained to follow fire safety procedures to the letter and ensure our guest’s safety is paramount. We certainly understand the inconvenience to you and our many other guest and trust that we have provided comfort and assurance to travelers in regards to our life safety protocol.

With respect to your concern over the groomers working through the night, we don’t often here this feedback, although we all have varying degrees of sensitivity to sound. By all accounts it sounds as if you got in plenty of ski/snowboard time; the work that goes on overnight has the slopes in pristine condition by morning, we’re glad you enjoyed your time on the hills.

Thank you, once again for posting this review and please feel free to contact me personally should you have any further questions, concerns or comments.

Well in all our years of travel and we have many, we have never experienced a more disappointing, problematic and over-priced hotel stay. I am really not sure how best to describe it - fiasco, disaster come to mind. Clearly we should have done our homework prior to booking with the Blue Mountain Inn.

All we were looking for was a clean, quiet room for a good night stay. Our son had ski races in Collingwood on the weekend. We were fully and completed denied this basic service by your facility.

On Friday, my wife had to call down to the front desk at 2-3 AM to request support with respect to loud, noisy partying going in adjacent rooms to our room. More of the same the 2nd night, where I personally went down to the front desk at 3 AM to request follow-up on the same issue. In both cases continually banging of the doors opening & closing, loud partying and very poor wall sound-proofing contributed to an impossible situation.

On the 3rd. night the staff moved us to a better location at the end of the hall on the 5th. floor. We went to bed early anticipating a good nights sleep for his race Sunday but this was not to be. Almost on queue, we were awoken again at 2.30 am by the fire alarm! After 1/2 hr outside in the cold we were told it was all clear and we could return to our room. What a bonus!

Wow, what can you say about such a disaster. I will not get into the problems with the breakfast service in the morning or the rather dirty hot tub as I am too exhausted by the whole experience.

Dear Martin H,

Thank you for taking the time to post a review of your recent visit to Blue Mountain Resort, I would like to extend my personal apologies since you clearly did not enjoy your stay with us and I can assure you this is not the quality of experience that we intend to deliver. As we scan over past reviews by many other guests of this lodging property, we are pressed to find any feedback speaking to excessive noise issues such as those that you experienced. With that being said however you experienced what is undoubtedly an isolated experience for the Blue Mountain Inn.

All guests acknowledge our noise policy on arrival and as such are expected to be respectful and adhere to the terms of the by-laws issued by the Town of the Blue Mountains. Unfortunately we do experience occasions whereby guests breach these terms and on report of such incidents we dispatch our Security personnel immediately to issue a caution. Generally speaking a visit from Security will result in compliance and put an end to undue noise. I can certainly empathize that your night of rest was interrupted and fully understand how this impacted your overall experience. We can assure you that the offenders were cautioned and compliant after our first visit. Upon investigating the second report of noise unfortunately no offending noise was located as per our security report regarding the call.

The fire alarm that you experienced on Sunday morning was caused by an overheated sensor on a communication tower and must be treated as a matter of life safety, whereby we must follow fire safety precautions and ensure the safety of all guests. In this case an evacuation was necessary until the fire department determines there is no threat and guests and staff can safely return to the building. While we understand your heightened frustration following the events of the night prior, we trust you will understand the importance placed on the safety our guests and staff.

We appreciate the fact that you have reached out to us directly in addition to posting your review on Tripadvisor and trust that our response was acceptable. Thank you once again for posting and please feel free to contact me personally should you have any further questions, concerns or comments.

Yours in Hospitality,
On behalf of Blue Mountain Resorts Limited

Dear Terrifical1,

Thanks for this feedback; we’re very sorry that we did not meet your expectations and that you left feeling disappointed. As you can see from many previous reviews the Inn gets mixed reviews but for the most part they are quite favorable. It’s not clear when you were here exactly, however during our transitional seasons, many (not all) of the attractions are closed because they are just that, seasonal or they are open on weekends only due to a lack of demand. The Village is still very much active in terms of retail and dining outlets and the surrounding area has much to offer in the way of small towns bursting with unique shops and points of interest. The rooms themselves have received consistently positive feedback since they were refurbished and the lobby is currently undergoing a complete remodeling, which we feel will be very well received this winter season. The Pottery Restaurant located in the Inn also gets glowing comments as rule, we’re sorry to hear the breakfast offering caused you further disappointment.

An older hotel which is going through renovations for aesthetics but also accessibility. We were impressed by our accessible room except for the bed which was too low for safe transfers for my husband who is in a wheelchair - great to get on but quite a lift to get off. Our housekeeper contacted her supervisor who came and took measurements and then asked us to review other features. Great concern and great response. The Inn is rectifying the situation. The staff are friendly. Some parts of the Inn remained dated e.g. pool room and inaccessible but we watched workmen ramp to the tennis courts and create a beautiful garden so access is coming. It was nice to walk/roll the 5 minutes to the Village. Food at The Pottery was great and again service was terrific.

Room Tip: We looked over the tennis courts and had a balcony which was nice - second floor looking south

Dear MCAT00,

Thank you for sharing your experience and enlightening us on the very important issue of accessibility. We have had several meetings with a local advocacy group that provides recommendations on improving accessibility, and as such we implemented these concepts into our Inn rooms when they were refurbished. Your e-mail to us provided an opportunity to further improve how we service guests with mobility restrictions and thank you for this feedback. We approached the same advocacy group with your concern and were made aware of a product that would allow us to adjust the bed heights in these rooms an additional 5” and achieve a desired height as needed. We are now in the process of acquiring this product and installing them in our accessible rooms.

We booked rooms at the Blue Mountain Inn for our book club's second annual getaway. I thought the Inn was closer to the Village where all the shops and restaurants were located. The good thing is, the resort shuttle operates 24/7 so we didn't have to walk very far to go anywhere. The rooms were spacious but the bathrooms were quite small. The common areas (elevators and hallways) were a bit dated. The amenities (spa, pool, lounge, restaurants) are conveniently located throughout the building. We enjoyed the hot tub before dinner except that 2 of 3 were not in service and the 3rd one was not very hot. They did have a service team on site working on it and all 3 hot tubs were back up and running by the end of the night or the next morning. I would have ruled out the Inn in the future but the resort shuttle will keep it a reasonable option for me in the future when I return.

Room Tip: The Inn may be slightly more cost-effective but is also a good option if the Village suites are sold...

Dear ChrissyCee1975,

Wow, another terrific review, thank you for sharing your most recent experience at Blue Mountain Resort, it’s nice to get different perspectives after visiting more than one property. The Inn isn’t all that far from the Village, not more than a leisurely 10 minute stroll, but the shuttle is a nice feature, particularly if the weather isn’t ideal for a stroll. The Inn rooms were recently refurbished and have enjoyed some pretty favorable feedback. You must have just missed the start of some renovations we are doing to the Inn common areas, work is underway and we think you will be impressed with the results should you have a chance to return. Oh dear, sorry to hear we experienced some mechanical issues with our hot tub facilities, thankfully we have a service team on hand at all times capable of conducting repairs and restored these services quickly.

I was excited to come into town for the runCollingwood 10k run in October, and invited my Mom along for a mini-vacation out of the city. Being two of us, we needed a room with two beds - these are hard to find at Blue Mountain! After finding that the Blue Mountain Inn could solve my problem, I called and booked. The agent was so nice and helpful, giving restaurant recommendations and his favourite picks. I called closer to our visit to ask about a late check-in, as I was running the race and needed to make it home to shower (I'm not a fast runner). They said to check when I checked in. Unfortunately, they were unable to accommodate this (which was disappointing), but I ended up running a fast race and we made it back with time to clean up and check out. The room itself is on the nicer side of average - good view of the fall colours on the mountain, and we overlooked the outdoor hot tubs and patio (need to do that next trip!). There's a shuttle to Blue Mountain Village, but it's less than a 10 minute walk away. Also, about a 10-15 minute drive to Collingwood. Not as luxurious as some of the other properties (I've stayed in Mosaic before and it is very nice). Free parking and easy to get around.

Dear KaseyR,

Congratulations on a successful run and possibly setting a personal record from the sound of it, I’m sure your mom was proud of you and enjoyed cheering you on. The Inn offers rooms with 2 double beds primarily, but also has a few king rooms and queen accessible rooms. We’re glad to hear this was a suitable option for you on this particular adventure. Our reservation associates are highly trained and eager to find the best fit in terms of lodging and packages as required, thank you for acknowledging the services of this individual. When we can, we are happy to grant late departures, however on occasion when we have a large number of arrivals we are unable to as was your experience, we’re glad to hear it all worked out in the end.
