“Friendly Hotel with Character”

Was fortunate to get room number 7 for my family which was great good decor & nice & roomy with all mod cons . A good friend was geting married at the hotel so unfortunately only stayed for 1 night.

A lovely day & evening & the hotel staff were brilliant just wish I could have spent more time exploring this quaint little town.

The Hotel made a nice change from the large corporate brands I am usually used to. This hotel is reccomended

We were looking forward to a country view and found that our window looked out over a roof top and various vents. TV reception was poor and there was an intermittent knocking noise through out the night, probably from the plumbing. We tried the residents menu one evening and although my steak was ok, my partner's pork was awash in a lake of soya sauce - and the bread rolls were burnt. On the positive side the room was clean, the bed comfortable and the shower powerful.

We found the staff especially warm, friendly and helpful. Barry sorted us out with discounted oakwood pk tickets.
its marked down as 3 star its more of a 4 star just lacks a lift to get the 4th
The location was superb for what we wanted,
15 mins from Tenby, 8 mins from Oakwood park.

The room (No7 family room) was very nice with a plasma tv mounted on the wall,

Welsh breakfast was top notch,

Plenty of local pubs & shops 3 mins walking distance.

will be recommending you to our friends.

I have been using the Plas Hyfryd now for 3 years, initially as a base for visiting a relative in the area, now as a base for really exploring Pembrokeshire. In keeping with my usual requirements, the Hotel is a quiet place with a very good and efficient staff who make you feel welcome from the moment you come through the door.
The relatively small number of rooms can make booking with certainty at short notice difficult, but, apart from that, the rooms are well furnished with either bath and/or shower plus toilet ensuite and kept to a high standard. There is one family suite with two bedrooms and joint bathroom. The TV in the rooms is a form of Freeview. There is no lift to the rooms. B&B works out at about £70, depending on the quality of room chosen.
The restaurant does an excellent breakfast with everything from cereals and fruit through to a "Full Welsh" breakfast, which is included in the price of the B&B. Lunches and Dinners are chosen from either the set choices or a la carte menus, a fairly extensive choice. The quality of the meals is very good indeed and I tend to go overboard with their Mushrooms in Garlic Cream with Stilton Cheese as my starter. The food is, as far as possible, locally sourced.
The Bar/Lounge is rather like a Gentlemen's club lounge with very comfortable leather chairs and sofas that seem to be trying to digest you. A small range of draught beers is available plus spirits and wines. The latter is a reasonable selection of wines and these can be pre-ordered for your meal. The restaurant is very popular with local organisations and there are two function rooms which normally acommodate these, so the restaurant does not become crowded at the time you wish to eat.
Service is pleasant and efficient, even ensuring the white wine has been chilled before you start your meal
The Hotel building is an adapted one which does the job very well. There is ample parking space around the side and back of the Hotel and good access to the main road from Haverfordwest to St. Clear. One slight problem here is the one-way system which starts within 200 yards of the Hotel. You have to watch your exit from this system or you may have to make another circuit!
For exploring the South West of Wales in Pembrokeshire this hotel is well located and gives rapid access to Tenby, Dale, St. Davids and the Preselli mountains. The car parking available here means fewer problems than at other centres.
I am already looking forward to my next visit, even though it is 300 miles from my home!

I stayed two nights in a suite. I was a bit disappointed by the interior of the room, which wasn't very luxurious. There was plenty of space, but the lounge was rather long and thin.

We didn't eat in the restaurant, but had a drink in the bar on both evenings. This wasn't very enjoyable as there were lots of people walking through the bar to go to a function room at the back and they were being rather noisy. This was a shame as the bar was housed in a very attractive room.

Service was mixed and it took me a long time both to check in and check out as the reception wasn't manned.

  • Liked — Location: Narberth is a very pretty and interesting village
  • Disliked — Noisy bar, cheap fittings in bedroom and bathroom

Plas Hyfryd Hotel is a grand Georgian Mansion that has been tastefully refurbished whilst still retaining the quaintness of a former rectory. I have stayed several times and used it as a base when visiting family and exploring Pembrokeshire Coast.
The food is fantastic and Narberth town is excellent for individual shops.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Hotel Plas Hyfryd, a small privately owned 3 star hotel, is situated in Narberth, in the heart of Pembrokeshire and only a short distance from the seaside towns of Tenby and Saundersfoot. Being central within the county, Hotel Plas Hyfryd is superbly located to take a peaceful 'away from it all' break. Little is known of the Hotel's history, Thomas Thomas, a retired surgeon, built 'Belmore House' and lived here until 1829. The house was designed by James Hughes, who was responsible for much of the development in Narberth. The name 'Plas Hyfryd' translates to the English 'lovely palace', and when you enter the front entrance and are greeted with the palatial staircase, it is easy to see why. We have fifteen en-suite rooms, including family rooms and executive suites and a stylish restaurant with an excellent menu by one of Pembrokeshire's most renowned chefs. Our function suite has all the modern facilities and comfort you would require whether you are planning a wedding, family celebration, business conference, team building event or training day. We hope that we will have the pleasure of welcoming you as a guest at the Hotel Plas Hyfryd. Our team are committed to a friendly, personal and professional service and look forward to extending a special Pembrokeshire welcome! ... more   less
