“In a nutshell: AVOID”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 February 2014

We decided to give this hotel a second chance. Our bad. Got a garden room...very old, dated, with dirty bamboo furniture and the smell...oh the smell...my husband described it perfectly: "it smelled like an old dog's towel". We ordered Room Service at 7:00 pm: chicken soup, spaghetti, a hamburger, a sandwich and two cokes; they said it would take 20 minutes. After 45 minutes and three phone calls, they delivered a hamburger, sandwich and spaghetti. Missing soup, missing cokes and worse: missing cutlery. We had a very cranky, very hungry three year old girl in the room...she had to start on her spaghetti with her fingers (not too bad for her!). The food & beverages supervisor said on the phone that he would go to our room personally to deliver what was missing; 10 minutes later there's a server at our door, no supervisor, some cold soup and two Ginger Ales, no cutlery again. They had the decency of not charging us for that "meal", but frankly, I would've rather paid double than having this experience. We are definitely going back to Coronado, just not to this hotel, never, never, never, again. Oh! We had no cold water in our sink...something wrong with the pumbling system, handyman said. Again, happy toddler not washing her hands very often :)

Room Tip: New rooms smelled terribly last time; old rooms smell worse now. Get them to show you both kinds be...

This resort is beautiful, no doubt about it. The room was huge with a nice view of a courtyard, tile floors, great shower with hot water & lots of pressure. The WiFi dropped me off a few times & was kinda slow. The restaurant was in the next building over & down some stairs but was open air & looked out at the pool & bar. The biggest "but" of the whole place is that there were no elevators. My room was on the second floor so I had to carry my bags up the stairs. Then of course what goes up must come down so when it was time to meet my group in the dining room back down the stairs I had to go....then walk about 1/2 blk to the next building go down another flight of stairs to get to the dining room. Then of course repeat it all in reverse to get back to my room for bed. The food was excellent, I had the prawns & they were huge! The area is gorgeous & while staying at the resort....golf, beach & horse privileges come with it & a golf cart too. Since I was only there one night I had to miss these things but I would return with the family for a vacation. "But" if you have a handicap in any way this is not the place.

Room Tip: If you can't climb stairs....check for a ground floor room.

If you enjoy a large, long pool for laps, this is the one for you. The water was not clear, however, it did not have a heavy chlorine smell when we were there. On the weekend there were tons of people and lots of children of all ages at the resort. Big jump houses and organized activities were held for the children over the weekend we were there. (We actually stayed a week.) The breakfast buffet on the weekend was good with lots of fresh fruit, yogurt, cheeses, meats, breads and a great fresh omelet bar. The coffee was good. One waitress speaks English. The wait staff will try to help in Spanish if you try. A week of food at the restaurant was a bit tiresome. There was a very small refrigerator in our room which was coated inside with ice and finally simply stopped working, thawed and leaked all over the floor the morning we left. The bathroom was small but we thought the room was comfortable in general. The AC was quite. The grounds were well kept and pleasant. The hammocks, chairs and rockers in the hallways are a real plus. There was always a breeze it seemed.
There is a hotel shuttle which can be taken into town. Otherwise, a taxi ride from the hotel to Coronado town is $2 to $3. The bus is $.35. We missed an evening at Picasso restaurant because there were simply no taxis, no shuttle and no buses. Even calling for a taxi, which we did, doesn't guarantee a taxi.
The Front Desk staff tries, but only one girl spoke enough English to help with our questions which were fairly complicated.
The ocean is a fairly long shuttle ride away. The hotel beach facilities, once there, are enjoyable with a small pool and hot food restaurant. There are rentals for boat rides, also. It is a steep black/ white sand beach. There are beautiful trees providing lots of shade above the beach where there are several hammocks and some nice seating areas.
We are back in the Coronado area, but I'm not sure we would return to this hotel.

Room Tip: A room on a hallway closer to the pool and restaurant is more convenient.

Unfortunately we are not golfers so I think we missed out on the best feature of this resort. The view of the mountains from the golf course was very nice. The staff speaks very little English, so communication was a challenge. Pool was expansive no hot tub, and there were never more than 4-5 people in it. There was a lack of any kind of literature of activities in the area, and with no concierge we were pretty much on our own. We hired their car service to take us town for groceries, $3 each way. We quickly decided we needed to rent a car to explore on our own, so we paid $40 to get to the nearest Hertz at Sheraton Bijao in Breezes Beach. This was one of our best moves, we were able to come and go as we pleased. Rooms need a facelift, very dated and not well outfitted. Hot water never got nearly hot enough, nor was the water pressure adequate, resulting in a shower that was very disappointing. Everything seemed a little damp, even with the room air conditioner running 24/7. We ate breakfast at the resort, just fresh fruit and tea/coffee (coffee is great everywhere in Panama). We loved the Coronado area, so the resort is a good home base IF you have a car at your disposal. Nearby Picasso's Bar/Grill was a lot of fun, plus there are several good restaurants within a mile or two. We made trips to Chame and Punta Chame, among others, and would visit again, just at a different hotel.

Room Tip: Suites have a balcony area which would have been nice.

" Coronado Golf & Beach Resort is what it is today because it was built by a man of vision. Thats what it takes to build something that can stand the test of time. The staff at Coronado is like family. They welcome you in a way that is honest and are truly concerned with the well-being of their guests. This Hotel is an institution in Panama and should be nurtured in such a way that future generations of both staff and guests continue to enjoy the great legacy that has been built there. I have visted this resort on every trip I have taken to Panama (11 in the past 6 years) and will continue to do so. "

Check in was a breeze(we arrived 3 hours early without a problem)The room was large, clean and comfortable. The restaurant was reasonable priced and good food. Golf course was challenging(over 7100 yard from the tips) The little beach was nice.We would stay again but bought a house nearby
