Tucked into a mountain side, and at the end of the quaint little onsen town of Kinosaki, is the Nishimuraya Shogetsutei Hotel.
The town of Kinosaki is considered a part of Kyoto, but is a two hour train ride from Kyoto City Station. Well worth it, as you get to see a little Japan's country side on the way. The bus picks you up at the Kinosaki Onsen station and takes you to the hotel.
Immediately, you are met at the front and welcomed very warmly! The hotel itself is in a beautiful setting and has a trail through a serene and calm garden area. What is most noticed though, is the warm hospitality of the people.
The rooms are quite spacious and had three different sections separated by "shoji" sliding doors. Unless requested, western style beds are not the norm is this hotel, as you will be sleeping on the tatami matted floor on a traditional "futon" bed. Good for some, not for others. We requested western style beds the second night and they were happy to set them up in our room!
Totally enjoyed the public baths in the hotel and the town baths were fun to visit, as they offer a tour of them at the front desk. The dinner and breakfast (included) were wonderful as well...
I recommend this hotel, if ever in Kinosaki Onsen Town!
