Canoeing along mangrove forest was great experience! The view was amazing also!
Only 2000yen for an hour canoeing. Good deal!

This is action for people of all ages with the right attitude. You can get sweat, wet and even muddy. Along the way you learn to paddle a river kayak and get to know a mangrove in a safe setting.

It is a nice, affordable and educational outing. The guide will give the basic hints in English, but the tour is held in Japanese. One has also the opportunity to visit a small museum and watch a video about the mangrove. And why not spend a hour playing a sort of croquet/ golf in a large, well kept green? That was fun too.

I just don't give a 5th"" star because the paddling trip is much shorter than depicted in the posters. One does not visit the deep mangrove, just an initial stretch. For most, that is more than enough, however.

To tell you the truth …I can't swim but my 10year old daughter really wanted to try canoeing so I gave in and am really happy I did. I got a little wet in the process but it was worth it. We could see the fish swimming nearby and found a giant shijimi/basket clam under a stump.
The Mangrove Park was incredible, lot's of creatures's paradise.

While staying on Amami-shi with extended family, we went to this little mangrove forest tucked away in the mountains of the island. What is really interesting about it, is that Amami-shi is a very small island and this little piece of it is well hidden, but extremely popular with tourists.

The mangrove forest is beautiful. However, it is very small, 15 min with the kayak to go and 15 min back. It was not worth the long driving from our accomodation.
