“Quiet and pleasant”
Reviewed 11 August 2013

A bit of a walk from the Yufuin train station, which was unpleasant with all the luggage. They provide a shuttle service from and to the station, which we used on he way back. We stayed three nights, the hotel was almost empty and thus very quiet, after 2 weeks of chaotic cities Yufuin made us see a completely different Japan.
We had dinner at the hotel restaurant, worth it! Breakfast was somewhat strange for us - it was only Japanese style (not really our thing in the morning), but we asked for a European breakfast and the staff tried their best to provide it the next day.
We rented bikes at the hotel and "toured" Yufuin and the Kinrinko lake, the green scenery was amazing! So was the view of the Yufu mountain from the hotel onsen, really relaxing!!!
We chose a twin room, not a Japanese style ryokan room, it proved comfortable and clean, size was European, not Japanese (meaning not tiny). We had some problems with communication, as again very few staff members spoke English, but all in all, it was a pleasant stay and I would recommend staying there.

Spent 3 nights at this hotel. Had a Japanese style room, enjoyed the experience of tatami mats and sleeping on the floor. Large room with a mountain view ,alcove with table and chairs, small fridge, boiling water and green tea supplied. We did not understand about restaurant bookings and little english spoken so did not eat here. Thought the hot baths were beautiful also with a mountain view, another good Japanese experience. Had the hotel shuttle bus to and from the hotel, infomation at the railway station phoned them for a pick up. A large supermarket is about 5min walk away, the main street about 10min walk. To walk from the station, follow the main road to the road on the right with the large Torii gate , the hotel is about 10min from here, you can see it in the distance, pale brown with brown roof. Yufuin is a relaxing pretty town.

Though the hotel looks plain from the outside, the inside is modern and well maintained. It is a short distance from town so it is very quiet. The staff members provided excellent service. The kaiseki dinner in the Japanese restaurant was delicious and part of the reason why this hotel is expensive. The dinner in the Western restaurant was very good though not anything special. The onsen was very nice.

It was a long walk from Yufuin station to the hotel (about 15 to 20mins, depending on your walking speed). However since most of the hotels/ryokans at Yufuin are not really near the station anyway, so it's not too big a deal.

The room is comfortable with lovely mountain view from our room window. Since we didn't opt for meals so can't really comment on the food.

We loved the outdoor food bath outside the hotel. There's 3 separate foot baths with different temperatures. It was nice soaking foot in the foot bath during the winter.

Although there is no convenience store nearby, but there is a supermarket about 4mins walk away from the hotel (opens until 10pm).

There's hotel shuttle van to bring us to Yufuin station on the day of our checkout.

It was hard to find a hotel for the night before and the night of Foundation Day and this hotel was the only one left with western-style rooms when I went online. We were so glad we ended up here. The staff did all they could to make our stay pleasant. A very nice young man with some English was available whenever we needed help. The room was huge by Japanese standards. We were provided immediately upon arrival with 'proper' green tea and yukatas. Onsen was terrific - great views (through the rain) and not overcrowded. We foolishly turned up at the hotel restaurant the first night without booking but were fed anyway, and the food was fabulous. On the second night we attempted to book, but too late, so the staff found us a nearby traditional Japanese restaurant and walked us there and helped us order. They even have a shuttle bus to the station if you can't be bothered walking for 10 minutes. I really cannot say enough good things about this hotel. The town is lovely too, although we had to battle rain to see any of it.
