If you go to the lzumo Taisha shrine, I recommend with confidence visiting here. The lighthouse 'Hinomisaki toudai' is very famous for the highest lighthouse in Japan. It takes about 45 minutes by car or 60 minutes by bus from Izumoshi station. We can have a beautiful seaside view around here.

First of all, I'm a huge fan of water. I've lived at the beach many a summer, so I naturally gravitate toward the ocean. The lighthouse at Hinomisaki, I believe, is the tallest in all of Japan. You can climb it for less than $5, and is well worth it! Unfortunately, you must remove your shoes, like everywhere else in Japan, and if you've got a 30cm foot like me, the slippers won't fit. I went up in my socks and it was a rather cold climb... (bring booties or thick socks if climbing in the cold!!!)

The view from the top is great, but in all honesty, it's not the most beautiful coastline. It's rugged, and the water can be rather dark. I'm sure it depends on the season. If you're lucky, you'll catch some migrating birds like we did on our visit. Their massive flock made for some entertaining sights.

You can walk all along the edge of these giant cliffs here, no barriers or walls. Parents, keep close watch on your kids. Drunk people...well, you probably want to keep away from here. But you can bring your fishing rod if you like.

I'll post some pictures, so please have a look. There are lots of little shops that make up a tiny, miniature town near the lighthouse. The town alone is worth the visit in my mind. Something like out of a movie set. Here you can buy fresh catch, souvenirs, and other snacks. If you do visit, you'll be one of very few in the world to say so.

I provided a Japanese site to Trip Advisor, but here is some information in English! Tough to come by in Shimane sometimes...Enjoy.
