You must stay here. It was such a fantastic experience. The hosts were lovely people and as all the others say, food was some of the absolute best we had in our three weeks of travel in Japan. Using the onsen in town just adds to the experience! We regret we only stayed for one night and would recommend this place highly. The views...wow.

Lovely old house owned by good-english-speaking host used as guesthouse.
Will pickup from Oboke JR station (3 km) and free use of hotel onsen in town (as there is no shower at guesthouse). Large, very good vegan meals (dinner / breakfast included in rate).
Great moutainside rural walks or down to the river, but very noisy, heavy traffic there. Enjoyable river cruise along rocky river.
Views from guesthouse great, but road noise does reduce enjoyment. Huge tatami bedroom.

Room Tip: Take advantage of the free visit to the onsen. You can bring and make your own breakfast.

We stayed here for 3 nights in April 2014. Like all the other reviewers we had a wonderful experience. The landscape of this region is spectaculat and we would recommend the whitewater rafting as a way of seeing the gorge. The guest house was very comfortable and the food was extraodinarily good. Thank you so much.

We had a great evening here - peaceful and relaxing with some of the best food in Japan - the only place that served whole grain brown rice in all my time in Japan. Our host were delightful and helpful. My only regret is we only stayed one night - something I will rectify on my next visit to Japan!

Arigato Gazaimassu !! ^^

We spent a really good time at Nori San 's house. We appreciate the location and the hospitaly of Nori and his family.
Nori San is really helpfull, he gave us good advise about what to see and to do in Iya Valley, plus he was at our disposal to bring us to the bus and train station.
To resume, we enjoyed our stay and the vegetarian meals cooked every day by themselves !
Big thank you once again to Nori and his family.

Seriously, if you have the time and ever wanted to experience Shikoku, staying at this wonderful guesthouse in the center of the island is probably the best way to do so.

My girlfriend and I stayed here for four consecutive days in August 2013 and by far considered Ku Nel Asob as the best accomodation we have ever experienced in Japan. Its location far off busy cities and streets (but good access via JR Trains and to attractions of the area), right above the Yoshino-River gave us the relaxation that we needed on our first days of holiday. The owner, Nori-san, is a heartwarming person that speaks excellent english and helped us out with bus schedules and took us (as well as picked us up later that day) to the train station every morning so that we wouldnt have to walk in the heat of the summer.

This guesthouse has three rooms of different size and all guests have breakfast and dinner (included in the price) together at a dining room. Therefore, every evening you sit together with other travelers (mostly japanese), the owner and his wife and just talk until everyone goes to sleep. We met new faces every evening, had a great time listening to their stories and recommendations for further travel.

And last but not least, I would like to praise the food that is prepared by Nori-sans wife Kaori-san. Maybe my opinion is somewhat biased, because being a vegetarian in Japan aint always easy, however this was some of the best food we have ever had: we liked everything about this guesthouse, but the food really rocked us off our socks. The food consists of local, fresh, natural and all vegetarian (mostly vegan) ingredients that are skillfully and creatively combined by Kaori-san.

Ah, I almost forgot: Before dinner, Nori takes all guests in his car and takes them to a nearby hot spring as there are no showers at this guesthouse. The entrance fee is included in Ku Nel Asobs charge. The hot spring is in a nice hot spring hotel and offers everything you expect from a public bath (i.e. outside tubs with view on the Yoshino-River).

Long story short: We will definitely go there again. The experience is worth by far every yen of the charge and it is so much different from normal accomodations in Japan that you will never forget it.

We weren't sure what to expect when looking for accommodations in the Iya Valley region, but when we came across Ku-Nel-Asob, we knew this was the place to be: Nori and his wife were so perfectly accommodating, friendly, and helpful! They shuttled us around, helped us book a rental car, and prepared the most amazing vegan meals we have ever had. We really appreciated staying in their beautiful (and authentic) home which they have been restoring themselves and with the help of some local carpenters. You must stay here!
