“Refreshing, revitalising and happy”

This is a beautifully presented guesthouse bursting with personality and life. The room and bathroom were very comfortable with generous sized breakfasts in the morning. Stephanie and Giles were a joy to meet and made us feel very welcome and relaxed with lots of laughter too! This place is good for the soul, you will come away feeling happier.

This is a perfect location to see Bath and the surrounding area.
We arrived to a wonderful warm welcome, our room was lovely and most importantly was spotless, the room was situated at the front of the house the road was fairly busy but we had no issue with noise. You needed to give your breakfast request in the night before which was no problem, it was all freshly cooked the bacon was to die for! As for our hosts they couldn't have been more helpful suggesting places to visit, the best place to park as well as asking our opinions to pass on to others. On your room key is a discount ticket it was brilliant we got discounts at most places we visited in Bath. There are 2 fabulous pubs in the village The George extremely old and the Fleur de lys. We were Going to try both out for food but ended up just eating at the Fleur de lys, the food was mostly homemade, more reasonably priced and beautifully cooked plus there was child's menu. Both pubs well worth a visit. My only criticism is a very small one we couldn't check in till 5 I am sure there is a perfectly good reason for this and would not stop us returning.

We stayed here for valentines evening and it was very enjoyable! We were greeted by stephanie who is a fab host and is definitely in the right business! Our room was spacious and there was a king size bed which I found to be very comfortable! It was a very stormy night and it was a grade 2 listed building but we both had a fab nights sleep and woke up fresh as a daisy! The breakfast was nice, a little on the small side in comparison to other places but it was enough... The only negative I have really was the shower... It was a bit weak, needs a bit of tiling work and the water was overflowing a bit(this may be due to the age of the building) but the rest of the experience managed to overcome this tiny little detail! Thank you very much!!

My girlfriend and I recently visited The Plaine and sadly it wasn't the great experience we had hoped it would be based on previously positive reviews.

Despite being on the main road it is hard to find The Plaine, due to the sat nav not taking us to the right place and ongoing roadworks outside the door. These seem to have been in place for some time without anyone working on them.

When we called to confirm our check in we were asked to delay our arrival due to carpet being delayed, although it turned out this was not being done in our room.

The room (superior double), number 2, is at the front of the property and can be noisy as advised. We did know this beforehand. The room was warm, too warm for me! The decor was aged. The smoke alarm had no battery throughout our 3 night stay. The tea tray was dirty and not touched throughout, the water in the bathroom had issues and at times there was a nasty smell from the bath plug. The shower was nice and powerful though.

The mattress was rock hard, something neither or my girlfriend liked and something to bare in mind!

Considering the price the breakfast is basic. We spotted cheap basic bread being used, twice it was over toasted/ burnt. On the first day my girlfriend went to use the jam only to find mold in it.

The buses are every hour, direct to bath. You'll have to pay for a return though, around £5.50 each.

Giles was very friendly, but Stephanie was not there throughout our 3 night stay, a shame as everyone seems positive about their hosting and it seemed that things were being missed as a result.

Overall, a disappointing stay. We made the most of it but wouldn't stay again or recommend to others.

Room Tip: Avoid room 2

What a pleasant surprise! The Room was cosy and warm. the Breakfasts were excellent and the Owners - They have got to be the most welcoming pair on the planet! Not only did they take the time to talk to us, they made a point of introducing each guest to each other as well as our dog.
A most relaxing and enjoyable stay.

A comfortable stay in a beautiful house with friendly and generous hosts. It's a lovely old house in a beautiful village (we viewed the roadworks as a fact of life; no-one's fault). Yes, it's right in the centre of things and therefore a bit of road noise is to be expected, but it is excellently placed for two good real ale and food pubs and a well-stocked village shop which served us very well when the little ones were a bit too weary to wait for a pub meal. The children were thrilled to have their own 'proper' beds already made up (we'd brought our usual mattress-blanket-nests for them) with a (loaned) teddy on each pillow ("...for welcoming us here" as the five year old put it). Stephanie gave us good tips on tourist attractions, and her friendly manner with the children made breakfast fun for them and just that little bit easier for us! Our room (2) was rather too warm, but I did negotiate the (unmarked) radiator knob, but to be honest, for us, the quirks and eccentricities of an old characterful property are part of what make a stay interesting and memorable. Having said this, we paid a reduced rate which we feel was spot on.
