“Reliable as ever”
Reviewed 28 May 2013

I never worry when I book the Premier Inn. In line with previous experiences, Polegate branch is spotlessly clean, quiet and comfortable. The reception staff were superbly polite and helpful too.

The only downside, not for us, but maybe in summer, is there is no aircon and it's a bit too noisy to leave the window open if facing the service station. But this was fine in May when it was not too hot. There's a vending machine selling bottles of drinks and a service station mini-supermarket 2 minutes walk away. The only minor annoyance was that the Philips FlatTV in the room had HDMI ports but I could not get these working with my smartphone so I could watch a film in the evening.

Car parking is open air and plentiful and there are lots of disabled spaces right outside the building.

Food is available (including the Premier Inn stock breakfast) at the Table Table "Treacle Mine" branch just over the carpark. Other reviews are correct in that you need to book your table even for breakfast, but we had no problems in booking just 30 minutes ahead for supper.

Although the breakfast is cooked to order, it was delicious and potentially unlimited and there is self service access to toast, jam, juice, tea/coffee etc.

Supper meals were cooked to an excellent standard and our waiter(esses) pride themselves on taking orders by memory alone. Service times are pretty quick with drinks arriving quickly, starters fairly quickly and mains within a pretty reasonable time. Waiting staff are extremely polite and friendly. For food allergy sufferers, there is a full folder you can ask for that details the allergens in all parts of all meals.

Sat and Sun accommodation needed, whilst attending family celebration. Looked at B&B's but prices no less than Premier Inn, without the guaranree of consistency.Despite the proximity to a petrol station and fast food outlets, you do not notice it when staying there. Rooms quiet, set back off large roundabout. Rooms usual good standard and large! Restaurant service on Sat night excellent despite being very busy and no reservation. Equally good for snack on Sunday evening. Breakfasts usual high standard and good value for money. But do not push the price any higher!! Individually cooked main course rather than buffet. Staff at Reception and in Treacle Mine Restaurant very good.

Room Tip: Ground and first floor rooms. No lift

We arrived for a wedding and had no problem obtaining an early check-in which was very important to us. Everything about the room and the service was exactly as we would expect from Premier Inn - friendly and professional service. No complaints whatsoever, except that at £89.50 including one continental and one full breakfast, we thought it a little pricey

We stopped here for four days on a short break holiday to visit Eastbourne, Brighton and Beechy Head. The hotel is quite a bit out of the way situated on a service station which on the positive side means its close for road access to surrounding area. Typical Premier - clean, comfortable and tidy with excellent hotel staff. The Table Table next door had reasonable food, not the best we have had from that chain of restaurants. Our evening waiting staff were excellent and one young waiter Benjamin gave probably the best service we have received at a UK restuarant. BUT breakfast is a nightmare. You are warned on arrival it gets busy so book a table in advance as it is open to all and sundry being a services station. Day one was bearable but the rudeness and treatment by a waitress on day two along with a 35 minute wait for our ordered breakfast ( you have to order unlike help yourself at most other Premiers we have been to ) put us off. We didn't even go down for breakfast on day three despite having paid up front on arrival. We would not stay there again due to the breakfast issue and it's out of the way location. But for those who don't mind a littel bit of travelling the hotel is adequate but plan breakfast elsewhere.

Room Tip: Avoid breakfast at all costs

Had a pleasant one night stay at this hotel, desk staff very pleasant and overall everything was very clean. Easy to find, good parking. Cannot comment on the food as we did not eat at the restaurant next door.

Ok, you need a car to get about and to get into Eastbourne, but the room was clean and, maybe because our room was to the back over looking fields, it was quiet.

We did not use the restaurant so can't say anything about it.

What was a bit odd was having only one set of towels. Reception did not bat an eyelid whenI asked for some more. Shouldn't have happened in a double room but there was no drama in sorting it out.

Stayed here for two nights. Nice quiet hotel. Good location for walks at Beachy Head, surrounding South Downs etc. There was a power cut on the Friday night which affected the whole estate so we didn't eat at the nearby pub, The Treacle Mine. We drove around and found a nice Indian restaurant and by the time we got back to the hotel the power had been restored.
