“What a find.”
Reviewed 2 August 2014

Called here to meet up with family and was very impressed with the location (no through traffic) ,and the food which was exceptional in choice ,amount and value.. A little disappointed by the lack of welcome ( there were obviously a few locals in the pub area).. The bar had local eggs and honey on sale - well worth trying !! We thoroughly enjoyed the lunchtime meal - excellent salads on offer and a tempting choice of desserts. If only someone could have welcomed us it would be very close to 100%. Well worth a short detour from the main road..

“A taste of England”
Reviewed 23 July 2014

We took a party of 18 for a birthday celebration in the South Downs of her childhood. The range and value of the menu and quality of the service and food was flawless - perhaps a little over mindful of closing at 3pm - it is after all a family pub. Alciston is a natural downland village with views across to Firle Beacon and is understated English. Rose Cottage is entirely at home in this setting, 5 minutes from the relentless A27 you are in another world. Yet the menu has a great range of traditional English food and the imported favourites whuich hasve enriched our cullinary life.

“Consistently Good Food”
Reviewed 19 July 2014

We have been using this restaurant for years and have spent the last 5 New Years Eves there with a party of up to 18. The food is all freshly cooked and the produce local this is top pub eating (not your fussy gastro pub style) Good tasty food served by a friendly staff on the one occasion that we had a small problem it was sorted out quickly with no fuss. Food prices are reasonable and the wine list is good and not at all overpriced. We have eaten here at lunch time and in the evening the quality is consistent even on the chef's day off. Thats why we keep going back. This is good Old fashioned English pub cooking and hospitality NONE of your modern picture on a plate with a smear of slime and a birds dropping of foam with a miniscule portion.

“A real gem in the countryside”
Reviewed 16 July 2014

Don't be put off by past reviews.
We always come to the rose cottage for all of our special occasions and cannot fault the place. Welcoming staff and a super array of traditional pub fare on the menu, decent selection of real (locally brewed) ales . If you can always try to book as even on a Tuesday afternoon the place can get very busy indeed.
Its a proper country pub and I would highly recommend to anyone

“Great food and lovely staff.”
Reviewed 16 July 2014

I have been here a few times and every time it has been a lovely experience. The food is delicious (the jolly posh fish pie is my favorite). Last time I went was with my family to celebrate my dads 60th birthday and they were great. The food came out in good time and the staff were great with my 8 year old nephew. I will be visiting again soon.
