This is a narrow gauge railway, that operates on 3rd Sunday afternoon of every month between April and October in the gardens of a private property, in an effort to raise funds for local charities. It is operated by volunteers. There is access by road or by river to a lovely setting. Ideal for families with young children. There is an interesting museum on site together with refreshments. Pleasant way to spend an afternoon at low cost.

Could we have more eccentric little collections like this. Just a wonderful afternoon out amongst truly dedicated nutters.

This infrequently opening attraction [once a month in summer] provides an interesting, entertaining and pleasant Sunday afternoon out for all the family. An electric riverboat cruise [From Wroxham Bridge] was enjoyed followed by a ride on the Riverside Miniature Railway [choosing from Riverside East or West stations] to get to “Wroxham” station. Here the main displays, covering many aspects of M&GN history in the area, are located in the extensive garden, including the entirely relocated M&GN railway Honing East signal Box. Here you can also have a ride on the “Mid Land” sic miniature railway or even take a refreshment break in the cafe ...!

We stayed in the Barton House holiday house, which has the railway in the back garden.

The railway is a lovely little attraction for Wroxham, with a full-size working signalbox and miniature steam trains.

Luckily, we were staying for the last running of 2012, so we got to see the railway in action - the staff were friendly (though some were rather young - I wonder whether HMRI would see this as fit) except for one who seemed to like to throw his weight around. It is a shame the railway only runs once per month, there were a number of visitors on that day and it seems something the volunteers enjoy doing. The ticket prices were rather expensive for the size of the railway, plus an admission fee - shame that it is not free for people staying in the guest house!!

Overall, it was enjoyable, but a little disappointing in some respects.

Great entertainment for youngsters and fascinating for adults to be able to step inside a genuine old-style signal-box which is actually used to control signals and points on the scale layout. Well worth a visit on their 'running days'. (Check their website for details: www.bartonhouserailway.org.uk )
