We booked this hotel based on the reviews, so perhaps we were unlucky. On a plus side the hotel is clean and bright and the overall accommodation was extremely roomy with a large step in shower and modern bathroom fittings. However the downside was the bed, which looked completely out of place in such a spacious room; a very small double which sank in the middle and made for the most uncomfortable night's sleep. What is the point of such a small bed in a large and spacious room. It was a complete waste of space! Since the whole idea of stopping overnight was to rest up with a good night's sleep, after a long drive, it was a complete waste of money. We are average weight and height, so I fail to understand how The Holiday Inn Express can justify classing this room as accommodation for 2 adults. The breakfast was nondescript, the only redeeming feature being the coffee. I would suggest you look elsewhere for accommodation. I certainly will in future.

Stayed here for one night (17th sept) Rachel and all the other staff we came into contact with we're lovely....exactly what you need in the hospitality industry....room was lovely and big and very clean although the mattress was a 'meet in the middle' one which was disappointing....we decided to eat here at night as we couldn't be bothered to move...the food was simple bar food which was all we wanted but we did have to wait 45 minutes for it to come out of the kitchen....being as there were only about 15/18 people eating we did think it was a little bit too long.....when the food came it was nice though....we'll definitely stay again we know what to expect and in my opinion the staff really do make your stay....so well done to all of you :0)

Clean, tidy and comfortable.
Excellent for a one night stay.
Got a good night's sleep. Breakfast included in the orice. Free wifi.
Much better value than the Holiday Inn, Preston and only about 5.5 miles away from it.
Staff friendly and helpful.
Would stay there again.

Stayed at hotel on 24th July 2013. Found it near a busy roundabout (get a room facing the carpark, much quieter). Traipsed through the innards of the hotel (narrow corridors) to encounter musty smells in the corridor, yet the rooms were okay (no smell). Nothing to write home about but quite usable and ok value for money.

Room Tip: Book a room facing the carpark, NOT the ones facing the busy round-about.

Stayed the night before a busines meeting - I found that my stay was just what i needed, the room was ample size, very clean and the bed was comfy. I used the room in the morning of my stay to send all my work emails and the free WIFI was a welcome change. The staff were very good and attended to my needs. MANY THANKS

Stayed here for one night when dropping daughter off at university - it was easily located just off the m6 (but far enough away so as not to hear the traffic) and only took us about 10 mins to drive to the uni. As we arrived early, we decided to Manchester for the day and again this was only a 'short' drive away. So all in all a perfect location! The rooms are nicely done and ours had a great walk-in power shower. You are given a choice of pillows and I personally found the bed to be very comfortable. The hotel has a 24hr bar for residents and meals are served until 9:30pm even though they have a good selection of food the hotel also promotes the availability of local take away menus from reception. We chose this option and were able to borrow plates and cutlery as well as taking our drinks back to our room - top marks for this holiday inn express!! The breakfast was complimentary and as well as offering the usual continental style (cereal, pastries and coffee etc) they have also recently added a hot selection of beans, sausages and scrambled eggs - all of which were delicious and fresh. All in all we had a great stay and will definitely choose again the next time we visit. Oh and the wifi was also free!

Room Tip: We stayed in room 37

Stayed for one night with the family on the way to Scotland. We booked two rooms which were both very clean and well prepared.

The hotel is a very modern HIEX and bears no relation to the HI in Preston. Although very busy, there is a big parking lot where one can safely park. Check-in was efficient, all directions and information were given by a courteous young receptionist. As an IHG Rewards member I had the privilege of free Internet, a welcome drink and a welcome letter!

The only 'let down' here is that the welcome drink was only for one person, where in every other IHG hotel it extends at least to my wife. But this was really a minor point.

Otherwise, I understand that there is an HIEX standard for breakfast (a common complaint here about the missing bacon) but I did not find the breakfast offered any poorer than anywhere else, and hey, if you want a richer breakfast you may just as well pay for it!

With regards to finding the hotel, I did not have any problem even if we arrived quite late at night. However, this may be just luck. Perhaps the management could consider a sign in the Bamber Bridge roundabout but again this would be just additional service, it is not really a "must".

A note to the traveller: Apparently, for safety reasons all plug switches are turned off when the rooms are cleaned. So if you try to turn on your TV, kettle or hair dryer and they do not respond, check the plug switches! Although some may find this annoying, it makes sense both from safety and environmental (energy saving) point of view.

Overall: A nice modern hotel very appropriate for any type of traveller.
