“Best Premier Inn Yet”
Reviewed 7 February 2009

This Premier Inn is one of two-this is the former Holiday Express.
It was renovated 19th Sep 2008 and it shows-you smell the new carpet as soon as you walk in. It has pub beside and an inbuilt breakfast area.It has Wi-Fi but here's a tip-there is a Burger King right next door with FREE Wi-Fi so buy a meal and get as much free Internet as you need. It's right off the motorway and there is a Sainsburys right across the road with a petrol station as well.
Your about 10 mins from the center of Preston which was great for me.
The rooms are great-brand new gear, flat screen TV with Freeview, power shower and double bed. There is very little noise from outside so a great nights sleep.Receptionist was good as well.
I've been in a few and this is the best-you wont be dissapointed for £60 a night.

Needed another hotel just off the motorway roughly mid-way between Cornwall and NE Scotland and given HIExpress' cheap summer family deals it was a more a case of finding who still had bargain rooms available. And Preston fitted the bill superbly.

Once again all you expect of the brand. Rolled off the M6 at 10pm to find a friendly welcome and our room ready and waiting for us. Excellent night's sleep in a comfortable room, breakfast, then back out on to the road by 0930.

Couple of little niggles, but two big bonuses. There was a bit more noise from other rooms here compared to other HI Expresses we have stayed in - can't blame the chain for its customers I suppose - and the breakfast room seemed slightly cramped given the number of peope trying to get breakfast. But the bonuses? Another fantastic value £40/night "leisure break" for a family of four, and a Sainsbury's supermarket across the road selling unleaded for 14p/litre less than the nearest motorway service stations! Who says the Scots aren't canny with their money!!!!!!

The Holiday Inn Express is located on the southern edge of Preston in a modern development area close to a big Sainsburys supermarket, a B&Q Warehouse and another budget hotel. It has great road access, convenient for heading east towards the Yorkshire Dales or south towards Manchester.

As a modern example of this brand, the accommodation is spotlessly clean, spacious, and well-designed. The bedroom was very roomy with most amenities - coffee/tea, good tv, dispenser toiletries, tissues, but no iron and naff disposable "facecloths".

There is no restaurant, but the hotel adjoins a pleasant pub/restaurant that serves good food and where you can charge food to your room - a neat touch. A complimentary buffet breakfast is available in the hotel - croissants, toast, fruit, cereals, newspapers - which was adequate but lacked some items found in similar hotels (eg, yoghurt, cold meats).

The staff were friendly and, overall, this is a great value hotel, suitable for an overnight stay or (as in my case) 3 or 4 days.

My partner and I stayed for two nights in this hotel and it was brilliant. We chose it as a base to explore Blackpool and Lancashire as this hotel was a lot cheaper than others near by.

Firstly this hotel is easy to find and not far from the major motorways as stated.
Good sized car park we never once didn't have a space. Even though the hotel was full as it was bank holiday weekend and half term.
The check in was quick and easy.
All the staff where cheerful and friendly making the atmosphere within the hotel nice. The where able to answer any questions we had about the hotel, the surrounding area and even directions to places competantly
Our room was immaculate and one of the better travel lodge type hotels ive stayed in.
We where surprised to find as well as the usual 5 channels you also get sky sports 1,2 and 3, sky news and sky one all free of charge.
The only noise we encountered was when the children came from there rooms past our door which wasnt a problem at all. There was a little noise from the main road but nothing extreme and we where situated at the front of the hotel.

The breakfast was wonderful considering it is included in the price is great. it includes various kellogs cereals and weetabix, fruit, bread for toast, various jams and marmite, yoghurt, pasteries, juice, water or hot drinks.

I would definatly recommend this hotel to others and would certainly stay in another express travel inn.

I have stayed in this hotel before, over a year ago and on that visit, at 4am the hotel's fire alarms went off so we all stood outside for an hour whilst the fire department came and eventually told us that it was due to a fault. No apology or letter from the company which was poor especially when I am a priority club member and spend thousands of pounds in a year staying at their hotels across the country.

Anyway, my recent visit was worse. I was booked in for two nights this time. The room on my first night was at the back of the hotel. What you are not told is that there is a building site situated behind the hotel now which was not there the previous year. The work on here continues until light fades so if you want the window open, be prepared to turn the TV up. Secondly, do not under any circumstances accept any rooms numbered 320 to 324 or near there. Once I turned the TV off, the whole room vibrated and all you can hear is a very low dull noise of an engine. I phoned reception who told me that they knew about this, have had complaints before and said it was a 'fan' near the room. There were no rooms available to swap me into that night. The second night, once I got back to the hotel, was at the front of the hotel. The hotel is very close to a main intersection thus there is an awful lot of traffic on it which is quite noisy at times.

If you want my advice, ask for a room at the back, on the ground or first floor away from the building site. You should sleep then. Keep away from the front of the hotel and the third floor. Also, there were two women in reception who had phoned this hotel, booked and even had a booking number but the hotel could not find this and had to pay out to take these two to another hotel and pay the difference in their stay. Make sure you get your booking in writing from this hotel or their web site.

The thing that puzzles me, why put a regular customer in this third floor room in the first place when they knew about the building site and the complaints from this room. Are they trying to lose custom or what?

  • Liked — It has a car park!
  • Disliked — Noise from building site at back and third floor 'motor' noise

Great hotel at a great price! Really friendly staff, efficient service and comfy rooms(ish).

Comfy rooms as in comfy bed and great power shower, except my room (206) was above the reception, breakfast area and kitchen so late into the night you could here the breakfast bar shutters rattling up and down LOUDLY. night staff cackling LOUDLY, cups and glasses being clinked together in the kitchen.

Also this was a non smoking room but might aswell have been a smoking room as night staff smoking below my window (not clapping)

Avoid this room like the plague! possibly 208 as well.

Good hotel though all the same, will poss stay again.

On ariving at the above hotel, my wife and I along with our three grandchildren, booked in and paid for our two nights stop over with Scottish money £240.00. which was acceptable at the time.
There was no notices to say anything different
While we sat down to our meal we were told that they would not accept our money and were told to change it or leave!.
We went back to our rooms to find Two Police vans turn up, one of which was Dog Van!.
The Police were very polite and on investigating the money along with a Bank Manager who was staying at the hotel, agreed that the money was genuine.
Being totally loyal customers to Travel Inns for the past Fifteen Years, our name was on their computer along with our car registration and siting in their car park!
It was totally disgusting the way that we were treated only to receive an appology from their head office.
A decent manager in charge that evening would have looked and seen that we were regular customers with grand children.
Beware All Scottish People at Premier Travel Inns!!!!!!!
