We spent four days in the charming "monolocale" with a sea view. It was in the end of a quiet street, just a short walk from the centre of the little fishing town. There were only very few cars and we liked very much the calm atmosphere. We tried the two open restaurants and Il Veliero was the winner, with wonderful food and atmosphere. We were surprised to find an excellent "Gastronomia" , which gave us the possibility to prepare good dishes at home. We had not very much space, but that is not necessary, because you have the beautiful nature everywhere around you. We had windy weather, and had long walks every day to explore as much as possible of the splendid nature and ancient history of the island. Salvatore and his wife were very kind and professional at the same time.

Our stay at Il Gabbiano Blu was the perfect beginning to our trip to the Egadi islands (following a terrible night's sleep in a not so good B & B in Trapani the night before!). Francesca and Salvatore were so kind and welcoming but not at all intrusive on our privacy. The apartment had plenty of space for just the two of us and was located just outside the village centre - easy to get to & peaceful at the same time. Having said that, the centre is hardly riotous - one of the big positives is that there are no cars: a noise-free zone similar to Venice, but without all those tourists.
Marettimo is very small so you can get to know the village (and its inhabitants) very well in less than a day. If you're looking for lots of shops & nightlife, it's not the place for you. If, however, you want to explore the nature of the island & feel like you've gone back in time to a land where kids still play in the streets together (and there's not a computer game in site), this is the place for you.
