This resort is quite different than any I have been to. To their credit, they even have an info package on their website telling about their concept and say this resort is "not for everyone", although I happened to book through an agent and only discovered it later.

We stayed in this resort for two nights. The first night in a beachfront breeze bungalow and the other in a seaview bungalow. We asked to move to a seaview bungalow because we felt the beachfront one was too close to the traffic on the beach, meaning both people walking by but especially the annoyingly noisy longtail boats of Ko Lipe that should really upgrade their engines to quieter ones already. In this case our beachfront bungalow also happened to be right next to the reception and dive shop; the other ones would have better.

The seaview bungalow offered the peace and quiet that we were looking for. There were no problems with the move at all - the owner and staff were helpful and understanding as always, and cleaned the other room for us in the morning so that we could move there easily. It was nice to enjoy time in the hammock a bit further from the beach. The resort is well located and just a short walk away from restaurants and shops. Some light construction was going on nearby, but the noise was nothing compared to the longtail boats that at times made us feel we are next to a race track.

The Castaway is an environmentally friendly resort. That sounds great in principle, but what it meant in practise was that there is no air-conditioning, no fridge, no hot water in shower, no hand towels, the water pressure was low, and so on. I am sure all these will help to save the environment, and are part of the "castaway" experience, but after sweating for three days and two nights despite the fan we had to confess that we already missed some modern conveniences, and sighed with relief when moving to another resort. It would be nice to at least have that air conditioning available, as it is in even the cheapest guesthouses nowadays, for the moments one feels it just gets too hot.

Internet connection in the rooms was rather intermittent, however I could see two strong networks that are meant for staff's internal use only. Food in the restaurant was very delicious, and service was consistently excellent throughout our stay. The wooden chest with a padlock in the room is an innovative replacement for a safety box and much better - first time ever it was possible to put all our luggage in the "safe"!

I am giving higher points to this resort than personal experience would entitle to, because they are obviously trying to think different, servicing a different kind of target group, and more diversity is always good. Definitely no regrets staying at this resort, it was an interesting experience and decent value for money. The Castaway can be recommend to people who like the simplistic concept, even though I for one enjoy writing this review in another resort with some more modern conveniences.

Room Tip: Seaview breeze bungalows are more peaceful than the beachfront bungalows.

Just back from Koh Lipe. My sister and I spent 5 nights with Castaway Resort. Would have stayed longer, only our plans didn't allow that. Had a fantastic time here. Arrived on a very hot afternoon, and was greeted with a lovely cold drink upon check in.Very much appreciated!!

Stayed in the Comfy Bungalow, at a great price. The hut was so lovely and very clean. Lovely shaded porch to relax in the hammocks, or have a beer in the evening.

The island itself was very quiet when we were there, nearly all the restaurants/bars were closed on walking street. We had breakfast/dinner in the restaurant at Castaway every day. The food was so good, we didn't feel the need to go anywhere else. The staff in the restaurant are so lovely and friendly and great at recommending dishes to try. There is not one dish that i didn't enjoy!

The resort is right on the beach and you never tire of sitting looking out at the turquoise water, its simply beautiful. I could have happily sat on the beach all day just relaxing, and in and out of the calm water to cool off a bit!

We didn't do any diving, we just rented out snorkelling masks and swam out to the coral and saw loads of amazing looking fish. Was so cool! Really enjoyed it!

The rooms were cleaned every day and little bottles of water were left every day. Again a lovely touch!!

Overall we had an amazing/chilled week at Castaway. I can highly recommend it to anyone! The staff are just so lovely and went out of their way to make us feel welcome and to ensure we had a good time. Big thanks to all the team there!!

Will hopefully be back in Castaway again in the future!

From the two Irish girls Amy & Ashley :)

Room Tip: the front bungalows have amazing views, but either way, your only a couple of seconds from the beach anyways!

We stayed at Castaway in low season in a Garden Breezy hut, the rooms were great and very reasonably priced. The fans in the room were not so good and it did get a little hot on occasion but overall they were kept clean and were very comfortable.

The hotel is perfect for relaxing; there are hammocks outside your bugalow and 'sala's' on the beach. The restaurant and bar areas are great; the food was a overpriced but the quality was acceptable, we found that if we went into the town or other resorts we could get better food at a better price. The restaurant did close early without notice on one occasion and another time we were really rushed to order food as it was close to kitchen closing time.

The staff were friendly, we requested that we change room halfway through our stay for a better view of the sea and they had no problem helping us.

The location of the hotel is amazing, the water on that side of the island was perfect for swimming and snorkelling. Although we didnt do any diving, the staff at the dive centre were really friendly and helpful into giving us advice as to the best places to swim and snorkel.

I have just had a wonderful holiday at Castaway on Koh Lipe
the setting, the room, the food, the service - all wonderful. It's so nice to stay at such a relaxing place with nothing to do but read, swim, sleep etc.

I also really enjoyed the service from all the staff members - thank you so much

Very clean, spacious and cmfortable bungalows set in a nice garden and on the beach. Not much to complain about here one of the nicest places we have stayed in in a couple of months of travel. Only complaint is the prices in their restaurant were a bit steep, but the restaurant is set up really well and is right on the beach. We did get discounted room as it was not peak season so i am not sure of normal pricing but for us it was great value.

Room Tip: Thought the cheaper bungalows were nicer than more expensive 2 storey bungalows, however they did have a view, but not of the lovely gardens.
