Stopped on spec. Our Sunday lunch was very good, not outstanding but we'll worth what we paid. Under €25 including drinks cannot be bad, would definitely call again.

Called here by chance, don't judge a book by its cover. From the outside looks like a bar which does food. The waiter was very friendly and spoke good english. I had espetada, did'nt know what it was, but thought I would try a local dish. WOW when it arrived it was amazing, great big skewer of lean lamb cubes, cooked to perfection, came complete with rice, salad and big dish of cooked potatoes, carrots, brocolli and the most delicious plate of fried potatoes . My companion went for the fillet of fish of the day. The whole meal including water (1 ltr.) and small beer came to the princely sum of 24.75 euro including taxes. This place doesn't have any airs or graces, just good value for money and clean, good service, what's not to like?

First in a row of seaside cafe/restaurants in one of the bleaker coastal areas in the whole of Madeira in October- it then gets little sun due to high cliffs behind and the sea is rough. Unfortunately the sea-front in Sao Vicente gives the impression of being rather run down, and devoid of tourists, possibly due to the recession- the end restaurant is up for sale but there is a large new cafe/restaurant built with panoramic view of the sea (empty on the 3 days we visited the sea here). We noticed locals seemed to go next door to Frente al Mar. Helpful staff, and generous portions (whole tureen for 1 soup portion), usual bill of fare including fish ebut lacklustre cooking when we visited.

We stopped at Frente al Mar for a lunch as we explored the northern side of Madeira. Like the name suggests it's on the sea front and despite the slightly overcast day we chose to sit outside and enjoy the fresh air.

The food was all simple, fresh and well cooked whilst the service and attention was friendly and polite.
