An historic establishment (over 100 year old property), this Lodge is without pretensions, but comfortable enough. In early Spring, the rooms are cold and drafty, but our room had a fireplace and heated floors. But the bathroom with slate floors was a challenge. It sports an old fashioned pull-chain toilet, but a good, though dark shower. The bathtub fits a large man and there is an electric towel heater.

Our old brick room was at the end of a short row and afforded the most view and privacy. The windows leaked air and the door did not close tightly . It had it's definite charm with a fireplace and a small double bed with a good down comforter and electric under-sheet blanket; there were reading lights on each side. However, a very dark, oversized dressing area didn't make any sense even though it sported an armoire.

There is a Victorian-style honesty bar, a sitting room and dining room. The dining room is cheery with lots of windows, a humongous fireplace, and chandeliers that are lit for dinner. Breakfast is a bit boring, and the dinners are good but a bit skimpy on portions. The gorgeous farm property makes up for anything luxurious, and the views are splendid. For African history buffs, this is a great place. The staff is local, as is the cook. A great perk is good in-room massages for a fee. The Lodge manager is friendly and caring. Make sure to bring your own hair-dryer.

Room Tip: Expect to have a somewhat rustic time. The rooms are cleaned daily, but the carpets are hand swept o...

Out in the country with expansive vistas, a marvelous night sky and a pond that attracts the eland, we thoroughly enjoyed our two nights here. Yvonne, the manager, took excellent care of us, even to getting us a supply of Savannah Dry for Happy Hour around a nice fire laid in the lounge. Our room was fine, comfortable and spacious. Carpet was damaged but bed was good. We had some challenge with hot water for showers at first but with some patience we got all we needed. Old-fashioned WC rather loud and a water-waster, but worked perfectly. Food was very good with fresh vegetables nicely served. Very charming courtyard with comfortable couches for relaxing. View of surroundings at breakfast most delightful.

Room Tip: Stay in the main building if possible.

With 4 of our friends my husband and I stayed at Seaforth Country Lodge the weekend of 15 and 16 July -- what a wonderful time we had. Such hospitality, wonderful rooms with fireplaces, wonderful food and not to mention the view. We are already planning our 2012 trip to Sani pass and will definetly stay at Seaforth Country Lodge again.

We had a wonderful weekend at the lodge. The road was good, and the setting of the lodge was very beautiful. We went for a walk the next morning along the river and enjoyed the natural beauty of the surroundings. The owner/manageress was very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We found the room perfectly decorated, with a nice double bed, spacious dressing room and modern bathroom. We enjoyed the fire in the bedroom, which was stoked up and kept going until we returned to the room after our dinner. The meals were also a treat, served in the dining room of the lodge with large picture windows overlooking the dam and mountains, and simply delicious. We will definately be returning again, and hopefully bring some of our friends with us.

Thanks Yvonne for being a superb host. Love Pete and Sharon

We came across this lodge after driving into, and straight out of the Sani Pass Country Hotel. The manager wasn't home, but the staff were very welcoming, and phoned her - we were able to stay. On reading the visitors' book we were rather alarmed, as every other entry mentioned the total lack of management and complaints about the place - I've never seen a visitors' book like it. However, Yvonne then arrived, and Gary, the new owner, and they have taken over the place like a whirlwind. It's still a work in progress, but it's already a great place to stay, and the grounds and facilities will improve. Having tea on the lawn with "crumpets" (what we Brits call "drop scones" or "Scotch pancakes" was sublime!

A follow-up on my previous review of Seaforth.
After numerous e-mails to the Tourism Grading Council (who have removed the four star grading) and the Underberg Tourist Board, as well as the new owners, I received my deposit back.

Apparently the new owners have upgraded the lodge and surroundings - but I cannot verify this.

I decided to write this follow-up and change the rating from terrible to average - because the new owners had the decency to refund my deposit and I can therefore presume that their intentions are good with regard to this establishment.
