Tigh na Sgiath is a lovely homely hotel with fantastic personal service.

We stayed for two nights on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis and loved every minute of our stay, the food was home made and delicious, the bed was comfortable, the bedroom was light spacious with everything in you'll need and bathroom had the biggest bath I had ever seen.

I can't recommend this hotel enough, my husband and I will be back every year (weather depending)

Room Tip: We stayed in the Ballindalloch room

We stayed at Tigh na Sgiath at the end of May and enjoyed a wonderful stay. This is a lovely small country house hotel still family owned and operted. Its great to come back to the warm and inviting atmosphere after a day out in the countryside. The comfortable rooms strike just the right balance between traditional and modern with lovely traditional furnishings and decorations but modern amentities. Our host was very helpful. We've stayed in several small country house hotels in the UK and you can really tell the difference when the owner is on the premises versus those owned by larger groups! You really felt like you were a guest in someones private home. We hope to return for another visit.

We stayed here this weekend and are happy to report a great hotel ith great food and a very nice host.

On arrival we were greeted with a complementary glass of whisky whilst we filled in the guest registration form. The we were shown to our room.
Our room was on the first floor and was well appointed with a flat screen tv and the usual hotel standards of tea and coffee.

We ordered our dinner upon arrival and it was served at 7pm, starting with canapés in the front room, we moved though to the dining room. Everything was well cooked and well presented.

Breakfast was served in the breakfast room with porridge offered to start and followed by a full Scottish. Again this was well cooked and well presented.

All in all it was a great stay and we will be returning.

Just back from a stay in this hotel which we came across by chance on the internet. It is such a beautiful place, full of character and history and really we loved it. The host, Iain, made us feel very welcome right from the start and was very attentive while at the same time managing that fine balance of leaving you to enjoy the hotel, at the same time. His very generous upgrade to a superior room, as he had had a cancellation, was very much appreciated, as he did this at no extra cost. Without asking for it, your every need is catered for. We loved the details which were thoughtful and really added to our enjoyment. The room was beautifully furnished and the decor was lovely. Added touches such as fruit, bathrobes and water were beyond our expectations.

We opted to stay for dinner and found it to be excellent, as did a German couple dining next to us, and also a very discerning gentleman and his wife who were there at the time. The menu was varied and our food, which was very well presented indeed was absolutely delicious. Coffee in the drawing room was a lovely way to end the meal.

The breakfast was also very good indeed, served piping hot and was perfectly cooked. The whole place is an absolute find. We will make sure we return and highly recommend this hidden gem.

We had been massively looking forward to a 5 night stay here on a birdwatching holiday arranged through a specialist company. We read lots of reviews and thought Tigh Na Sgiath sounded a perfect base in Speyside.

Unfortunately, what we didn't know is that the rooms that get the glowing reviews are generally in the 'superior' category. The room Ballinadoch gets mentioned again and again, with every justification - it has glorious views with lovely furnishings, bags of south-facing light and its own turret.

We, however, were allocated a side room with a view over a washing line and a dilapidated and rusting corrugated iron shed. The room itself, called Speanoch, was pure Fawlty Towers: anaglypta wallpaper, cheap furniture and a small, chilly shower room. No bath. I negotiated use of the tour operator's very nice bathroom, but my husband said the Speanoch shower was hopeless - so tiny the shower curtain stuck to him. Yuck. No phone in the room either, and no mobile signal - massively inconvenient if like some of us you need to stay in touch with an elderly parent. The bed was firm and the temperature chilly as the room was north-facing and got no sun. We had to use an auxiliary electric heater. This was basic and spartan accommodation, not at all what we'd been expecting.

Our grievance was not so much with the charming and hardworking hotelier, but with the specialist company we booked through, who charged us the same rate as the fortunate couples allocated lovely rooms with beautiful furnishings. However, we found it incredible that such a room even existed in an otherwise well appointed and comfortable hotel. Accommodation like this has no place in a small country house hotel.

The location is good for exploring Speyside. Food was fine and as long as you ensure you have a superior room with a great view, you will no doubt have a very enjoyable stay. Sadly we didn't.

Great service, friendly staff who will ensure your stay is as comfortable and welcoming as true Scottish hospitality can be. Breakfast is phenomenal, with enough food on offer to keep you going right up until evening time. Very comfortable room, with amazing views.
