So much is said of John in reviews of this property, so before talking about John, let's start with the accommodation itself. Firstly the pictures do not do it justice. The entrance courtyard is beautiful, the pool is larger than it looks and includes a jacuzzi seated area and the rock waterfall. There's a great table and seating for at least 8, perfect for evening dining. The triangular table and benches add another area to catch the sun. Upstairs is the roof terrace, a large table and seating area for evening drinks, a sun deck with loungers, a covered area for looking at the view, all with great views across the village and down to the sea. Inside is a revelation, its cool, in more than one way, built into the hill it maintains an ambient temperature at all times. The kitchen is well stocked, there is plenty of room to sit, and the TV area is charming, although not used, as outside was too nice to miss! Both bathrooms are nicely done, the added touches of toiletries, and lovely towels make all the difference.
Now to the host, John.
John is not your average run of the mill owner, looking to rent out a property and cash in, John is without a doubt a very special host. Meeting us at the airport, taking our cases in his jeep, giving us a quick tour of the local area, taking photos of us. Taking us for dinner, showing us the best local restaurants and bars etc etc. John was at no point intrusive, totally helpful and great fun to talk to.
Staying at the winery in such a beautiful location will be remembered for the rest of our lives as a truly memorable holiday. I cannot recommend this highly enough.
We have just returned home from a week's stay at the Restored Winery. The accommodation is just beautiful and has been restored by Jon in keeping with its 200 year history, but is also appointed with all the modern touches that you would expect. The photos don't do it justice - it really is stunning. Jon was the most amazing host. He met us at the airport and showed us local sights and recommended restaurants whilst enroute to our accommodation in the beautiful town of Emporio. He treated us to dinner, booked an evening of wine tasting whilst watching the sunset, followed by a recommended dinner booking and delivered pastries for breakfast the following morning! You really don't need to stay on the Caldera to appreciate the island or the renowned sunsets. This really was a holiday of a lifetime where we were able to experience the real Santorini with our host and the locals. I would highly recommend the Winery. Don't take my word for it - book it!
We really had a great time in the restored winery. It is a beatiful, typical Greek place in a small greek village. Jon, the owner, was great! He showed us several dinerplaces, nice beaches etc.
Five of us being all women stayed at Jon's winery we were meet at the airport where Jon took our luggage and placed it into the back of his jeep . We were then shown our hire car arranged by Jon after a few details which needed to be logged we were given a guided tour by following him and being advised on the best places to eat and drink . We were all five treated to lunch and drinks which was something of a surprise to us Jon goes above and beyound his means he is the most accomadating person I have ever met . On arrival to his winery we were overwhelmed by its beauty the photos doesn't do it justice . I have never felt so sad to have to leave such a beautiful place behind . Thank you Jon .
This review is really overdue... Apologies to our host Jon. We stayed here as a group of three friends in mid-June 2016 and couldn't have asked for a better place to stay on the island. It's tucked away well off the beaten path but in easy reach of everything (nothing on Santorini is really too far away). If you are hiring a car from the airport, take Jon up on his offer to show you the way back to the house. He'll tell you that won't find it on your own and he's right. After arrival Jon was happy to do as much or as little for us organising things to do as we liked (in our case not much at all) and this was very much appreciated. The upper terrace was perfect for evening meals with a lovely view and Jon's own artwork throughout makes the house unique. We would happily return and hope to do so.

We have have just spent 4 nights at this delightful place, it is very quaint & quirky, fantastic interior/exterior lovely rooftop for bbq's & sunbathing, now Jon .... What a wonderful host very very helpful, we have been to Santorini 3 times already so knew the area a little bit, but Jon showed us around , gave us some tips on good restaurants, & generally made our stay excellent, would definitely recommend this place.....
Thanks for lunch Jon
My wife and I along with 3 teenagers stayed in the Restored Winery for a week in August. Jon met us as we came off the ferry. He gave us an orientation of the island and then got us settled into the Winery. Once settled he gave us a guided tour of the local area so we could find our way to the shops, tavernas and beaches. This was really invaluable as well as enjoyable. Jon then treated us to lunch where he entertained us and provided more tips on how to get the most of our week on the beautiful island of Santorini.
The winery is a really interesting property which is located in a local village a few KMs from the beaches. The road to the Winery is narrow and Jon provided advise on alternative parking. The plunge pool is lovely and there is a magnificent terrace on the roof for relaxing and BBQ'ing. Jon cooked a traditional Greek meal on our last night which was really enjoyable.
We had a great time on Santorini and this was due in part to Jon being a fantastic host/guide.
